salt corrosion on Kauai bad for my STI?

hi,
im moving to kauai (lihue) end of this month, for 6 months+ and considering shipping either my 05 STI or my civic. im worried about salt corrosion though. will i get it bad if the car is there for 6 months...1 year.....2 years? also should i keep her at "tein h-tech" height (1.5 inch drop) or put here back to stock? quick response please, i have to decide on which car to take to matson on jan 16th

salt corrosion is a fact of life in hawaii....
ship the STi - more fun...
a garage definitely will retard the damage to your paint.
if you do not have a garage... a car cover is mandatory if you cherish your car's luster-

if you are financially conscious(sp?) bring the civic... but like i said --- it's worth driving the STi here....

gdogg, you on kauai? i saw one blue sti there last year in 05. so paint is my main concern, yeah? you think 6 months is long enough to do some good salt damage?

I also have family in Lihue.

I wouldn't worry about salt corrosion problems. Subarus have a lifetime warranty on corrosion!

Seriously though. I've lived on the North Shore of Oahu all my life...I've NEVER had any problems with my RS or STi with corrosion issues. They were both garaged, but other cars that belong to members of my family are left outside and they are just fine after 3 or more years. As long as you take the time to clean it well and polish the car, you should be ok.

I was just in Lihue today (as well as Kapaa and Koloa) for business. Thinking about expanding there. I haven't seen ONE suby while I was there. Be special w/your STi and enjoy it. I've seen some fun roads there .

I remember seeing something
in the owners manuel about cleaning the underbody every now and then
to help keep salt off the under body.

Anybody hose off the underbody after a rain storm?

That depends on you. As far as driving with the car lwoered, Kauai's roads are ok. I would be more worried about shipping the car with it lowered. Where are you going to be working? Wilcox? KVMH? I'm in surgical sales and we do business with the O.R.'s at that hospital.

ill be at wilcox. im leaning towards leaving the STI and taking the civic. its expensive to insure the STI for marine freight and normal car insurance.

is there anything else i have to consider when shipping mainland car for hawaii use? i was reading some classifieds for used cars, and saw something mentioning "safety insurance" or something like that?
