write a letter. i got mines dropped via a letter a couple of years ago. we have very liberal judges here. but make sure it is well composed and detail the event and what "mitigating" circumstances are and why you think the charges should be dropped. be specific and to the point. take pictures via google or go to the site and snap some pics. a little research will go a long way and will save you the trouble of going to court and paying higher insurance premiums for years to come. good luck!

So half of you think I should write a letter.. The other half of you think I should go to court.. Lol. I'd be more comfortable writing the letter but what if it's not good enough and it would have been better for me to go to court?! So confused. Ugh.

How close were you to the van? if you were within 100 meters the radar may have been confused especially if you were coming around a corner. You can also say that the van was pulling away from you at the time you were in view of the officer proving that the officers radar was picking up the van. Hope that helps. On another note I wish we had highways in california called the liklike.

Unfortunately, Hawaii uses laser so there is very little "confusion" between cars. The cross section of the beam is about 1" diameter at 1000 ft (or close to it) so unless the cops aim SUCKS, there is no confusion. Im not saying it cant happen Im just saying the EQUIPMENT makes it pretty hard to have it happen. There is always something we in the navy like to call OE (operator Error). The cop could have hit the van, saw a sporty car (you) right behind it, then said, "Those damn Ricer hooligans, I'll show them!" Looks like he is doing a better job protecting Joe Public if he nabs a "race car" then if he nabs a "fine upstanding citizen just trying to get to his workplace on time" Know what I mean?

Uh well unless I missed something you were speeding.
A judge is not going to hear "But I was only doing 60 not 70". Like CMM said The lasers here are very accurate and hard to fight in speed trap areas.
If you do fight it at least go to court and hope the cop has a reputation or the judge is in a good mood and takes pity.
