question for you suby guru's

Ok gang, It's about that time for me to mod a little more out of my wagon, eventually I'm going to lower my wagon a little. First off, any of you good or know of someone that will do that "rolling fender" thing?? Thanks for any future advice, flaming is also welcomed!!!

why do you need to roll your fenders?? are you gonna run wider tires?? i wouldn't suggest it unless you are going to run some wide tires...if your running the stocks it'll be fine...and if you're not going to drive hard (Auto-X, DSSL, etc.) i dont think you'll need to roll your fenders....

hope this answers your question...

I believe oldmansan is running 17x8 or 17x8.5 with a 245/45 and we rolled his fenders and it was not needed and his car is lowered also he is running some negative camber which might be the difference. Don't go through the hassle of rolling them unless you experience rubbing you might be wasteing your time.

it is definitely due to the negative camber. keep in mind tall guy has a wagon. also, it depends on the type of tire. if san was on a street 245 type tire, then the real width is most likely narrower than a race type 245. whoa. 245/45 is nasty tall. 245/40 is the best, but finding race tires in that compound is hard unless tirerack got rid of that nasty half a year backorder that my order is still on. 235/40 is the next best.

i got the fender rolling tool that shops use, so let me know and you are free to use it of course. NOTE: your paint will crack when you roll the fender even with proper heating. the good thing is that it is not visible unless you are tire level. since the fender is basically a "L", when you make it "||" the paint will not stretch enough at the bottom that goes from 90deg to 180 deg. all you will need is touch up paint to seal it back up so it won't rust. also, you can flare out your fender itself a little which is what will happen no matter what. you should see the 240's we did.

oh yeah, just the back needs rolling. you might be able to get away with 235's in the back with crash bolts, but it will be close. with the autoX lateral movement, the bushings might compress/give sideways causing the tires to rub, even if they seem to clear while at a standstill. finding out the hard way means slicing up your tires. i did it before and elliot just did it this past race.

speaking of the hard way's where's wrx151. gotta roll dem bones in LV soon and rallyX.

yeah, i remember when i ran 032r's on my civic. i think they tend to run more like a typical street tire than a cheater tire. yeah, 245's in race compounds cleared my cusco z2r's too. sometimes it would come close to the spring collars though.

Rob over at Sonic Motorsports does a fine job rolling fenders. Of course there's no guarantee against paint cracking, but I've seen him do many fenders without a crack. Call 'em at 845-1192.
