Question bout cold air intake and MAF sensor.

Hi everyone,

A few months ago I got a cold air intake from ebay and installed it.
The intake fits the car fine but the MAF sensor didn't fit perfect.

After installing the intake my car started having an erratic idle.
Sometimes it would idle at 1100 rpm and other times it would be 400rpm.

Today I took the middle pipe of the intake back out and put the stock box and hose back in.
Then I measured the diameter of the MAF bung in both pipes.
Stock: 32mm
Aftermarket: 29mm

So here is my questions:
1. Is it likely that air leaking around the ill-fitting MAF would cause an erratic idle?
2. How do I make the hole in the after market intake tube 3mm bigger so that my MAF sensor will fit properly.

I'm including some pics of the intake pipe I'm talking about and the current intake setup I'm running.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

I agree with HEEDZ. Either bore it out with a dremmel and have a quick fix. Or what I would suggest is lose the EBAY CAI and buy legit. Quality is where it's at bro.MAF sensors don't like to be ****ed with and if your CAI is leaking directly from the MAF mounting point then your gonna have problems.Save some money and buy a good CAI or short ram w/airbox. Then you won't have these problems! 😄

These may be a dumb questions, but when the idle is higher, is it while the car is still cold? Does it go back down after the car warms up? Also, did you double check that you reconnected all the hoses?

Question.. If i put a cold air intake do i have to reprogram the computer or can it be stock? Will it have a negative effect in the cars performance? I already have a cat back but some people that i talked to say i have to reprogram the computer for it to get full potential. But most of them not a subie owners. Thanks....

I would recommend going back to stock. the stock box is good to over 300 Hp and our cars dont lilke the intake to be messed with.

I would highly reccommend disconnecting the battery for 10-15 mins to reset the learning peramiters and then go back to happy motoring.

I wouldn't recommend any CAI unless you are going to get it tuned. The elbow that bends into the fender messes up the MAF reading. I went with a short ram instead
