question about pulling music off ipod

Ok so I just bought a macbook and I want to pull the music off my Ipod and add it to the mac. The original files from the Ipod are on a external HD that took a crap on me that's why I want to pull the files off the Ipod. None of the music was purchased through Itunes so I cant just simply transfer the music. Any ideas or programs that might work to help pull the music off the Ipod?

I've done it before with a free program that I downloaded off the web but its no longer free so I'm just looking at the different options I might have.

I had a similar experience once. I found a free product called Senuti (iTunes spelled backwards) that did the trick. That was a while back and I'm not sure it still works. I'm sure if you Google it, you will find a link to it.
