Q's about Engine importer experience..

For those who've had their engine imported from either the MotherLand of JDM or from the North American area, who have you gon through?? I personally had only 1 experience and that was through K.Watanabe corp based in So.Cal back in had my honda days and their prices where resonable. I tried to contact them them but go not getting any response.. So does any have any excellent reccomendations with no hassle very customer sevice oriented imported?? I wanna start searching and before I could set up my plans but wanna keep k.watanabe on the very first on the list.

thanks for time,
walter

I used a number of importers, with mixed results. Avoid Osaka JDM motors though. They caused us quite a number of headaches.

on this topic you may want to consult this Q on rs25.com since they do more motor swaps then i-club and nasioc. there are a bunch of vendors on there that deal with alota JDM companys and have great reviews on getting the motors to state side and probably can get it shipped stright here. just thought i'd share

here is a quick search http://www.rs25.com/forums/search.php?searchid=804665 didn't look threw it to much but it should help

Fine Line Imports in Michigan. Call them up and they will hook you up with whatever you need to include different version shortblocks and heads as an assembly.

A good friend told me that he received his JDM motor, transmission and other accessories from them in an unprofessional manner(all bus up) and by that testimonial will steer me away from them!! Figure you pay close to $10,000.00
for JDM products and the leaset they could do is pack it nicely and in no harms way!!Suprising he never went all LOCO MOCO on them!!

Hrmm, thats weird to hear. A good friend of mine got his motor from them, said they were awesome to work with and he still gets parts from them fairly often. Either way it is one of the few places that will piece an engine together for you.

I know the same person walters (dub81) talking about and I know that it wasn't just 1 time it happened it was twice. They also didn't want to make the situation right with him. Most people that have good experiences with JDM importers are in the continental us but it's a completely different story when it comes to Hawaii.

Hawaii is in fact an automotive tuning/racing nightmare. When it comes down to it the roads are terrible, there are no tracks, parts are expensive thanks to shipping, and there is limited availability of knowledgeable shops.

^^^finding parts online isn't so bad. some places understand shipping is bad and usually adjust their prices accordingly. it also helps to show you are a loyal customer, for example gruppe-s always gives me kick butt pricing. personally i usually dont buy anything locally cause not only do they mark it up for shipping they also adjust for the hawaii economy.

as for knowledgeable shops i only go to Vakamon (Ryan). other than that there are a few people here in HIIC I would trust for knowledge, Jon, Shaggy, Dave, just to name a few.

also the US Post Office offers flat rate shipping. its amazing how much you can fit into some of there boxes as long as they are small items ie. bushings, end links, short shifter. in short always ask if they offer USPS priority (flat rate boxes)
