Pro import race...

anyone going this saturday??? A little birdy told me that none of the really fast imports are coming out. it might be a good chance for us normal street guys to earn some cash and have fun. Hell I even took 2nd place in the import quick 8 last weekend and earned myself some mod $$$.

Costs $50 doesn't it?

I don't know. It ain't like I could beat anyone. The only way I could win is if they beat themselves.

yes, 13-12sec can definitly compete. My best pass was a 12.99@106 and that got me the #2 qualifier spot.

Reggie,

Are you doing this?

Right now, I'm planning on going down there around 2pm and then making up my mind. If I decided to run, I'd have a while to make up my mind, right.

Being that I'm the slowest of the 'upgraded turbo bunch' I think I can honestly say I'm only doing it for the fun.

ok, but you're in the process of reconfiguration...and my EM is a whole lot easier to work within than yours.

If your car was where you wanted it to be, you wouldn't be stuck at 13.2.

What EM? I dont have no stinking EM? Stock ECU baby all the way! Great cold starts, no off idle stumbling, and best of all it doesn't get affected by weather changes....

Okay lets just chaulk it up to I wasn't ready to have a stand alone in my daily driver.

Yes and no.. But there are limitations to a standalone or should I say little irritations that many do have.

For example just a few...

1. starting.. I had to turn the key on for 3 sec before cranking and even then it took about twice as long to crank over and start. The TEC II/III is like this as well, and I believe autronic too. Something to do with the fuel pump circuit being different or slower to react and prime the pump.

2. weather plays a great part in your tuning. Humid weather would make my idle hunt around from 700-1100 RPM. Made my car look like a POS when I had pasengers asking why it did that.

3. low MAP jerkiness that I couldn't quite iron out(it's a LINK thing)

4. there is no fancy remote map switching doo-hicky. I can't think of any majoy standalone that has that. You UTEC boys got an advantage with that :P I could solve problem #2 with this and have a humid weather map loaded at the push of a button.

5. non-resistor plugs didn't work with the LINK. It only took me 6 hours of cussing and the beating of my head under the hood to figure that out.

6. a permanent CEL with my version of the LINK, although LINK-USA offered to 'fix' my board to remove the CEL for a fee of course

7. There is not enough support for a standalone unless you have lots of money or have a connection to hook you up on tuning.
