My car loves chevron..I use 76 also when I can't find a chevron. My car runs funny with shell..I think my car is weird sometimes...Then again my car holds the record for the most torque on stock vf39 turbo using chevron.370 awtq on pump gas and 401awtq on torco race..My car hates shell gas.

Also, yes gas does make a difference. Many members have posted problems with chevron and others. Ask shaggy, he was one of them. I exclusively use shell 92 octane in all my subies. It probably boils down to personal preference, but i love shell, and don't see switching anytime soon. I believe that most guys on this forum use it also, there were several polls posted on this subject in the past.
yup very true!!! i did my test b4 the E10 was put in so since then i dropped down to about 335 per tank on shell sill awesome #'s

my car ran like crap on chevron it didin't idle right or anything and took longer to crank over! only with chevron my car acts weird. then when i switched back to shell everything went back to normal

yeah i was wondering about that myself so i decided to try them all except tesoro and aloha petroleum (76,chevron,shell) and have to say that i tried 3 tanks of 92 oct each without octane boost and couldnt really tell much difference except that chevron made my car run more rich for some reason hmmmm...then i tried three tanks of each of em with 104+ off road only octane boost and for some reason the shell gas made my car run killer and i couldnt tell much difference between the others but chevron still ran rich for some reason i think im gonna stick with shell just because its convenient for me and when i decide to add octane it does for what reason i dont know make a difference in the smoothness and response of my car hmmmm.

Gas is weird

It's funny that a lot of people report having problems using Chevron. But Brad and Jess had great numbers on the dyno using Chevron. But then again maybe Jess' brother in law filled up somewhere else prior to the tune.

When I used to drive my brothers '79 Camaro back in highschool, we'd always have problems if we used Chevron. The car wouldn't idle smoothly and we'd have to tear apart the carb and clean out the jets and fuel bowls. What a pain. With Shell, we never had that problem.

I haven't used Chevron on my STi (bad memories). I like to use Shell, but have been using Tesoro a lot lately. I was using 76 on the last tune (just happened to fill up there prior to the tune).

I wonder how "good" the gas is here in Hawaii compared to the states? I know that all our gas comes from either the Tesoro or Chevron refineries. But each "brand" add there own additives (cleaning agents, etc) prior to sellng it. I wonder if the refineries on the mainland refine the gasoline to a higher purity, that in someway may allow them to make more power? This is total speculation.

I only say this because it seems like the people who are running larger sized turbos (i.e 20g, fp green), seem to be making less power than people on the mainland. It appears that people running stock sized turbos or a little larger are making power similar to peoples numbers on the mainland. But when it comes to the larger sized turbos, it seems like the numbers just don't match up to the mainland. The larger turbos really shine when you're able boost up to the 22, 23, 24 psi range (this is really where you start to push the limits of octane and detonation). My car (on meth injection) could only go to 20.5 psi. When Jarrad pushed it to 21 psi he said it started to detonate. When he did do the 21 psi the car made a 345 whp/374 wtq pull (respectable but I was expecting more). So i'm wondering how these guys on the mainland can have their cars boosting 22,23,or even 24 psi on pump gas with meth and i'm stuck at 20.5 psi? I'm sure the 93 octane they're able to get up there helps too. Here is an extreme example of what a 20g on meth can put out. http://youtube.com/watch?v=e0bz4hQG98Q

Maybe i'm just reading into all this too much and overanalyzing things......

True. There was not much increase over my numbers from the last tune.

Vf39 tune last year in Sept 01,2007.

Pump Gas Map was 296awhp and 370awtq 21psi
torco map was 326awhp and 401 awtq 22psi

Fpgreen tune on Feb 16,2008

Pump gas was 336awhp and 382awtq 22psi
torco map was 366awhp and 407awtq 24psi

I was suprised as how my numbers on the stock vf39 turbo was pretty much just as good as those with upgraded turbo's on their sti..Makes me think about how a vf43 will do on an sti.

In my opinion, I think by adding the torco accelerator it made the quality of the gas better ..All in all,I am very Happy with my tune and the way the car feels. It's soo smooth like butter.I think someone should come out with urine injection. Also if you drink alcohol prior to peeing in your tank then that will be a 50/50 mix.The bigger the proof number on it that you drink prior to peeing in your tank will mean a higher octane.

Major props to Jarrad, Dan (Ojichansti),Brent(IslandStyle) and everybody who made the tuning days all possible and successful.Another one is coming up so lets hope for more good numbers for the people who tune this time.(This especially means you Dan).

For confirmation I know for a fact he did not fill up before the tune because I topped off the tank with Cheveron before I left almost a month ago.

Also the gas question was one my questions to Jarrad I asked him about what gas was best with tune days and he specifically said that he has seen more consistent numbers with Cheveron gas. Now this not to say Cheveron is better just more consistent.

I too was looking at the numbers of the greens and 20g's of hawaii vs mainland #'s. In my opinion they do seem low.

That's true Jess, mainland numbers are much higher. Some 2.0 guys are seeing 370 on an fp green. I've seen a vf34 with my exact setup do 320 on the mainland. But i think Jarrad is more of a conservative tuner and more people autoX than go to the strip now. So it's all relative.

now i dont know weather or not 1 point of octane is going to make much difference but arent most premium grade gas on the mainland 93 octane???? and could that be the reason behind better numbers?? oh and im sure the air is drier and much more dense in the mainland too and i know that makes a difference in performance hmmmmm....

well i know for a fact Az and Ca are all pumping 91 octane....

as for what Brad was saying all turbo Suby's as per the owners manual recommend atleast 93 octane but if your tuned your tuned for what gas you have locally.
