Possible platform for swap...

So I have been contempleting buying another Suby my wife likes her TSX and we were going to get rid of it but I just had to put new tires on it so I threw the Greedy exhaust back on to get it out of my shed. So I found this car http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/674258161.html as a platform for a WRX engine swap. I am also buying a house which we will be closing on this month so I can't do anything until then but a car like this one is what I am wanting to buy. I will be able to have the car in a non running stage for how ever long I want since I have my Yota PU and my GSXR and the TSX so I can take my time. Now my question is I know a few guys on here have did the swap into RS's and was wanting to get a ball park figure for the total price and any tips for doing the swap myself my father-in-law is giving me a engine hoist and I have the needed hand tools and am looking at picking up a air compressor. Since I will finally have a garage to work in. My wife already said that if I make E-6 which I am 100% sure I did that I should just look for a car thats around $8k but I would rahter build a project car. Before the swap would happen I would want to swap out the suspension for something adjustable not sure, brakes for some from a 05 TR wrx that has the 4pots/2pots, throw some Rota's on it and then start gathering required other parts. Sorry for the long post had to make it long since I have become a lurker since I no longer own a Suby but I am going to fix that. And before andbody asks if I did a search no I didn't not yet. There is a local shop that has performed the swap numerous times but I want to do it myself.

Thanks J

Wassup Jeremiah. Long time no post. As I have never done a swap, I can't speak from personal experience. However, seeing certain people do them, I can imagine for myself the wiring harness would be the biggest nightmare. But, if you can get the car for that price, I'm fairly certain you could do the trans and motor swap for under $8k.

Hey Dave, do you use both harness's? And combine them into one? I will be looking to pick up the car I'll use around July might not be the one I posted up but that car or a similiar one is what I am looking for. I like those sport wagon's and they are cheaper sometimes I have found Impreza L's but most of them are auto's. If this project ever happens it will be a long one I have wanted to do many projects but none have happened but I am having a 2082sqft house built so the garage is mine so I will have the space inside and since I live back in WA which it rains most of the time inside work space is great. So now its off to do some searching..

If I could find a complete donor car that be great then I could yank off the suspension unless it's the same I fould a totaled 02 WRX but the guy is asking way too much plus right now I have no where to keep anything and am stuck until around July thats why I am narrowing down the car I like the little wagon I posted up thats the type of car I am wanting to get. I found a on-line place that sells a complete wiring harness plus EM but there price is fawking nutz..Maybe I could just pay Dave to make me one up if I send him what he needs..None of the work scares me it's the wiring that I'm not comfortable with.

Patience is all I can say.....I waited a long time before I finally found my donor. In the end it was worth it. As for Dave he is the man, he is helping me whenever he can I can only hope to gain a 1/4 of the knowledge this man posseses

If this ever happens I am not going to be in a hurry I just want to have something I am proud of and can say I did the work myself nothing wrong with paying somebody to do something your unable to do or do not know how to do I'd probably pay somebody to either help or do the wiring unless I can find a complete donor car.

Hey Jeremiah...hope things are going well for you.

This sounds pretty good to me...you can probably talk the owner down even lower since it's got 184k on the odo.

The swap shouldn't be bad at all the only thing that those year cars don't have that the newer WRXs have is a bigger wheel well and width...but they're much lighter and sexier.

Well I should at least be able to stuff some 17x8 under the car I'm not buying the car I listed but it is what I am gonna be looking for something clean not abused mileage is not much of a concern. I have the cash to buy the car I listed but until we close on our house at the end of the month my finance's have to stay the same. I want my total budget for the car and swap to not exceed $8k. Well after dooing some E-bay searching I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-...QQcmdZViewItem which is great because the guy is local so if he ever gets any more I will have a start...
