subaru style?
simple question, why the hell is subaru changing the style of the wrx's every 2 year's. dont get me wrong, i like the style of the 06, but why did they have to change them, i liked them the way they were. i have an 03, the "bug eye" headlights are cool but i liked the 04's even better, anybody got an answer to this?

to keep the car fresh, and innovative. It's a Japanese standard I guess to redesign more often than other countries. Mitsubishi and Subaru are the most frequent redesigners out there.

nothing wrong with keeping it fresh...look at all the people that sell their cars and get a new suby every time they release a new style...marketing my friend, marketing
It's kind of cool that they redesign, so the front end of ur wrx like bug eye gets more rare.
But it also sucks for resale...
Someone said mitsubishi face lifts alot too, but most the evo style look similar to me-- nothing like the complete redesign of the subaru's.
Although I did stop by a mitsu dealer today with my gf to check out cars for her, the new eclipse looks drastically different, they look like 350z now.

it's a number of things. with the most dominating factor... sales. the 1st year was a stellar year- subaru exceeded all expectations- while the chasis is the same-- facelifts were offered to spark more interest and promote higher sales. period.
negative feedback from the media/surveys back in 01/02/03(01 in other countries) regarding the bleh bugeyes sparked designers back to the drawing board for MY04/05
i believe that in 2007(fingers crossed) that we should get a whole new platform..considering the current has been out since 2001(usdm in 2002)it would only make sense since most manufacturers avg. 5 years for a platform...
hopefully i will be getting back on board with subaru soon.. i definitely like the direction that they are headed....

"Minor changes" are a regular industry practice every 2 years or so; it's just that some companies do it more dramatically than others.
the keywords should be MINOR CHANGES. subaru has gone from the bugeye look to a normal look to now a "i don't know what it is" look. what ever happened to brand identity? look at how slowly other cars have changed through the last decade...and then look at the drastic changes that the WRX has undergone over the last 4 years!
if it isn't for the fact that subaru is trying to re-shape their brand image, i'd be tempted to say that they didn't know what they were doing. LOL.

I think the reason the bugeyes lasted only 2 years are becuase the lack of popularity. People said it looked like a neon. you may have not heard it mcuh on i-club, but outside i-club you most likely would have. That's why I think the look changed in 04. Again in 06 because generally every 4 years theres a more major redesign, which is what we're seeing with the 06s w/ the 230 HP and 234(?) torque and 2.5 L and newer look.
