its a nikon d300. any suggestions to improve the pics? besides a better spot haha.

 

read your owners manual a few times would be the first thing i'd suggest if you haven't done it. the picture looks fine. learn your camera

 

White balance looks a bit off although it may be done to achieve a specific effect.
