Out of State......Registration Questions???
Out of State......Registration Questions???
Hey Guys,
I'm shipping my car from California and was wondering what I have to do for registration. On my shipping companies website they have two options: register the car to hawaii or keep my cali plates until the registration is up. The problem is I bought the car used from a dealership and have no front license plate and have been reading about the safety inspections. My car is also modded. (lowered, full body kit, wheels, exhaust, etc) What problems am I going to have? I went to UH last year and am now bringing my car over so I know the area.
P.S. I was looking for a suby before i got my car but ended saving some money and buying an srt-4. I know this is a subaru forum but I figured you guys could help me out. Hopefully i can cruise to some of your guys meets/track days because I love all types of cars. Is it subies only or all cars???
Thanks,
Jordan

Jordan,
First, we're a pretty low key group, so if you've something with 4 wheels that's fast come on out. I imagine there's probably some sort of SRT-4 club or whatever on island, but I don't really know.
As for the out-of-state registration, I would just keep your CA registration until it expires. It's only $5 for the out-of-state permit, so why bother throwing away the $XXX you spent on your CA registration to get a HI registration (which is $20 I think)?
I've been hit once for not having a front license plate. Maybe a car that draws more attention to itself will get dinged for cheesy stuff like that more often, I dunno.

as far as the reg goes you will probably have to get it when you get here b/c you do need the front plate. as for the safety you will need to get a recon sticker b4 you can get the safety. http://www.hawaii.gov/dot/highways/a...s/134-B1&2.pdf this is the only link i have with some of the recon regs. so it's recon, then safety, then reg. GL with everything and welcome to HI. L8R
