Orders make it official
Headed to the land of Islam; Afghanistan in my case, around the late April, early May timeframe.
It will be for a year, so I guess I shouldn't have a problem with funds in building a monster...more than likely that will be the ******* Wagon with the 2.2 or 2.5 B&S'd with a turbo off of a Semi
I give up command so they are sticking me in Division G3 (that's the 2-star division commander's plans & operations staff.) What this means is CPT=coffee maker and all around mule.
Fortunately or unfortunately, I'll be close enough where I'll be able to hear every detail on what my current company is doing. This COULD be a bad thing if they turn out to be working in a highly contested area. It would severely break my heart to hear about my guys getting beat up at all. I selfishly hope that they become guards for something insignificant and in a friendly area, but should they be tasked to do some heavy work, there isn't a better suited company of men to do it. I trained them myself.
Also fortunately, because of this news, it guarantees me that I'll be here with you guys for a few months longer. If I would have been approved to move on in the Army to my future job, that would have meant I would be leaving mid March.

man, looks like a lot of us will be departing shortly. I've got orders to EOD mobile unit 3 out of Coronado, I'm 'supposed' to leave in July, but may be on hold for a little while depending on some things.
Good luck over there, ... I wish I could go with you!!

I hope you
see no harm. Deployments for Air Force types are coming soon. I am a prime candidate. Means I can put the car back up on blocks. My car is almost exactly two years old and has 13K on it.

Well, good luck Pat. You may very well run into a few of my classmates over there. I'll be praying for you guys. Fortunately I should be hangin in Colo Springs for at least a year before 3rd ACR gets sent off somewhere.
Good luck to you out there, and have fun getting the coffee. That's a lot of what I did for the last 3 years (highly trained coffee maker, 1 each).
IF you hear that 3rd ACR is heading anywhere near you, let me know (God knows the LT is the last to know). I would be more than happy to support your area with a Platoon o' tanks.

Mangled Patton quotes:
Greg,
Hopefully I don't see you over there. My fingers are crossed that this all ends in 8 months or something.
The Third Armored Calvary Regiment starts attacking in the morning, but we will go slow so the others can catch up.
The greatest gift a lieutenant can have is a bad temper. A bad temper gives you a sort of divine wrath and it is only by the use of a divine wrath that you can drive men beyond their physical ability in order to save their lives.
Leadership is the thing that wins battles. I have it, but I'll be damned if I can define it. It probably consists of knowing what you want to do, and then doing it and getting mad as hell if anyone tries to get in your way. Self confidence and leadership are twin brothers.
The enemy is as ignorant of the situation as are we.
Hopefully I don't see you over there. My fingers are crossed that this all ends in 8 months or something.
