Thumbs up New Redline Automotive Store

There's a new Redline shop on Beretania right after the Japanes Cultural Center across Star Market. It used to be a Carquest. I just stopped by and they have the full line of Redline products, you just have to ask at the counter for it.

There's no filter on the MT. Trans oil can be changed every 30k, but more won't hurt. 60k is a big one, don't forget all the other stuff. And yeah, MT-90 is the stuff I use in my trans.

I have heard a few times that Redline MT-90 or MTL is not a god idea to use in our trannies since it's GL-4 rated and ours require GL-5. I have used Redline in just about every car of mine, except my WRX and RS. I used it in my '95L with no problems but I only had that car for ~10k miles.

Thoughts?

The real difference between GL4 and GL5 oils is that GL5s contain a slightly higher combination of antiscuffing additives. But because the redline oil is a special blend designed for synchroed MTs it makes up for the lack of additives.

Hmm OK. Also, I posted a group buy for Redline a while ago but no one seemed interested. Maybe next time? Last time we did this in SF I was able to get a case for about half price due to how many people participated. Now that I am in HI, my friend who sets up the GB made us special pricing to compensate for shipping. Didn't get one pm or email.

Anyway, I am a firm believer in Redline and their products (my Celica and all my turbo Z's lived on Redline alone) but every time I would mention Redline on I-Club, people would start freaking out because it's 'only GL-4' despite the info you provided. Odd.

I used to use Redline 75W90 NS in my STi. It was rated GL-5 but did not have the friction modifiers that eat up the bronze/brass synchros.
