I guess it shouldn't be suprising considering the same people voted for rail....

Bill to ban loud car
stereos shelved

POSTED: 12:38 p.m. HST, Feb 09, 2011

Bill bans pumping up car stereos

A bill to ban loud aftermarket speakers and
subwoofers in cars was deferred in the House
Transportation Committee today after more than 200 o
pponents, particularly small audio business owners,
submitted testimony against the bill, citing its
detriment to the industry.

Only a handful of supporters submitted testimony in
support of the legislation.

The bill would have banned the installation,
ownership or use of any car with aftermarket speakers
over 6.5 inches in height or depth, any five-speaker
after-market system or any aftermarket speaker of more
than 100 watts.

The bill will be dead for this legislative session if it
doesn't move out of the Transportation Committee
before Feb. 18. The committee doesn't anticipate
further action on the matter.

It happened to me today,..

Was at a stoplight by the aloha stadium in my Sti, and of course a white Honda civic pulls up next to me. I had my windows up, but the rock song I was listening to was going thru its bass part of the song. Kid actually took this as a challenge to search for a song and turned it up and I sat there for like 30 secs looking at him thinking "so what" kid? Didn't bother me any, but every generation goes thru this scenario.

Being in high school in the 80's, " going back to Cali" and many other bass loaded songs were on my CDs too,...this bill is stupid, but some form of it concerns me if the state can find a way to generate money out of it.

Well, IIRC Recon was originally established as a public safety issue back in the day when people would try take crazy things on the road like welded front and back clips from different cars -- if it's done well, no biggie (relatively speaking); but if done poorly (no pun intended), well... hello multi-car pileup on the highway! A family friend is an old-time muscle car guy, he used to have to get recon for the exhaust and mags on his Stingray back in the day and he never complained about it -- "ya gotta pay to play", he always said.
