Need some help...18hr, Gdogg

I ran into these bolts tonight which stopped me dead. I've got to get those pistons out this weekend. It's sort of hard to see, but the head bolts that go onto the head studs; they're marked with letters, A through F. They're some sort of octagon or decagon heads or something.

Mike, if you see this, lemme know.

Gregg, could you ask one of your mechanics or something?

Anyone else, feel free to help a brother out.

Thanks

I may have found the answer already.

Torx plus, not just torx, and 11mm x 1.25 or 7/16"-20.

Still searching.

If you are talking about the "torx plus 45" it's a ***** to get off. It holds the camshaft retainer in place. I think this is what you are talking about.
They are practically impossible to get ahold of without ordering them.
I ordered mine from Willa tools. THey weren't priced bad and got to me pretty quick.

You can try a regular torx, but they are very very likely to strip out. If you get the torx plus they are soooo easy to pull. The right tool for the right job rings true as anything on this one.

digital cam picture would help
If they are the actual head bolts, they're just 12 points.

It is a 14mm 12pt, but use a 1/2inch drive. I bought mine at Sears. It isn't as hard to remove compared to the cam sprockets, but it will be a b!tch if you happen to strip one.

I can't remember the torque specs and sequence off the top of my head, but Quirt was very helpful and was nice enough to fax me the diagram and specs.

Ron at Axis also has a trick way to torque them down. I also incorperated his method of waiting a few hours after torque'n them down before doing it a final time.

Quirt has a ARP head studs that fit perfectly.

BTW, I'm at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, and we'll be convoying to Iraq shortly.

IRONY?!!?

I just now got back from sears. I bought a set of mm sockets that are 12pt, but I bought 3/8th's drive!!

Damn Chris, you take care of yourself. Make sure your rifle is zero'd and if you have any say at all, try not to go near the polling centers. If you have to, see if you can influence who goes with you. You only want reliable people around you in those circumstances.

Good luck.
