Need some Electronic/computer help
....so speak slowly and with feeling.
I have tried 6, yes 6, laptops to get the Delta Dash to work. I won't go down the list, but of them, I have gotten only my work Dell w/ WIN2k to run it. Other problems I've had are screens that quit working, lack of USB capability (no port or it's an NT system), or lack of serial capability (I guess all of the newest models don't provide this.)
What I'm looking at doing is a booty form of the MattJK LCD. One of my computers is a nice, archaic Gateway that got rained on and the LCD no longer works, although the computer does (I plugged it into a desktop monitor I have)
I don't want to throw the dinero at something as sophisticated as his (is this what you did Boloheadrat, this MattJK?). I was looking at something like just a $100 or less screen and I'll build a temporary mount for it and maybe make a hardwired plug for it. Meaning, I can take it in and out of the car and I'll maybe make the bootiest wooden or metal mount made of the finest plumbing or electrical hardware supplies that Home Depot has to offer.
Any thoughts? Any thoughts on how well it'll plug into my laptop? Any help/advice will be appreciated. Oh yeah, if you didn't know, DD can ID and clear fault codes in your car, so once I get it up and running, I should be able to log & clear codes for whoever needs a hand.
Thanks

I just emailed ECUtek....
"To Whom It May Concern @ ECUtek:
My friend just picked up the Delta Dash software for his Subaru WRX and it’s great. I’d love to buy it for my STi but I have a problem. My lap top is too new. I don’t have a serial port on it only USB. Is the software going to be updated soon just to run off of USB or do I have to buy an older used laptop with a serial port?
Thanks"
..hope they write back.

I'm sure ECUtek is as advanced as split second.
You can run an adapter from USB to serial. All it is is a cable and some software. Cost you a couple bucks at a computer store (like byteware) but it should work. It works for my stuff.

Dom, the problem I'm running into is that I now have 2 serial to USB adapters that for whatever reason, aren't being seen by the laptop.

"Hi Daniel
Thank you for your enquiry.
You can use a USB / Serial Adaptor , they cost around $30 USD.
You will need 2 USB ports (one for Adaptor for connection to the vehicle the other for the USB Dongle) or you can order a parallel ports Dongle.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.
