hell an alarm is not a good theft deterrent...how many times have you walked by or heard a car alarm go off and didnt have a care in the world....besides if a thief really wants your car he will get it. no car alarm in the world will stop that. thats why I say get a silent alarm via to a pager, that way you have a fighting chance to stop the thief. bat, gun, etc etc...you pick...

YES...I keep forgetting the name of the place but have taken a few cars there over the years. Recommended to me from a family friend who is a mechanic back in the mid-90's.
One alarm I am considering is the Zenesis one with the touchpad you put on the glass so you can type a code in to open the doors. That is pretty cool.

I considered the zenesis but found out there were more problems with it and the technology isn't exactly working properly. I figured if I was going to buy another alarm I'd buy something that was worth the money. Yes they do have cool features, remote and 1 mile range which I like but I can't see having that on the car as a primary alarm. It would do good for a second or a show piece but that's about all.

I would stay away from the Zenesis..
It has a few "cool" features, but the R&D of the software and programming of the alarm is quite lacking.
I would stick with DEI alarms.

I've fixed the issues I've had with my existing alarm system that is making me want to get a new one. However, It's only going to hold me over till I can get a new alarm installed. That's looking like it'll be next week Sunday. I currently own a clifford alarm but want a viper one. They are the same company but my experience with the two different brands under DEI is that my viper ones seemed to last longer and have a slightly better build quality. I could be wrong but that's my experience with them.
Since range is always an issue, I'm looking to install the smartstart module and it's compatible with the following alarms:
VSM100 Module:
Viper: 5902, 5901, 5701, 5601, 5501, 5301, 5101
DSM100 Module:
Clifford: models 1.2, 1.3x, 20.7x, 2.2, 3.3x, 50.7x, 590.2x
Python: models 1401, 580, 1601, 872, 991, 592
By transmitter type: 1-way SuperCode (RS or Sec/RS), Responder LE (RS or Sec/RS), Responder LC3 (RS or Sec/RS), Responder HD
It's advertised a lot on vipers website not on the others. Only DEI's site had the information on the smartstart DSM100 modules everything else but viper.
We will see though since nothing is set in stone... LOL

You should install a Pain Generator Siren in your dash as well. I had one in my Box Civic and that thing was unbearable when it went off.
This one is made by Directed Electronics. I was unable to find it on their site though.
