Legacy with STI engine
What do you guys think about Subaru putting an STI engine in a Legacy?
Some would be angry because an STI engine should belong only in an STI and that's what you paid 30K+. (Corvette owers are having this issue with the new Cadi with the vette engine).
Or do you think subaru should do it, even if it devalues you STI, to expand their auto line/market?
Just wondering?

Actually if I'm not mistaken STi does not refer to a specific Subaru car model. It's the arm of Subaru that adds performance to vehicles within their lineup. My STi is really just a WRX with performance improvements from STi.
I didn't buy my STi as an investment, so value from other peoples perspective is insigificant to me. As long as it holds up to my driving I feel I got my money's worth.

Subaru will never do it. The legacy is not in Subaru's "performace market" so, if anything, will offer a detuned, (A.K.A) 2.5 forrester engine for the U.S. Market, god willing. Plus it would be a stupid move from a marketing stand point for any other car in their line up to make as much power as their flagship performance model, the STi.
But I'll tell you this. If they put a 2.5 turbo in a Legacy and offer a M/T, im all over it.

Actually I thought I saw a Legacy STi on a past issue of Best Motoring? It was the same one which had a lot of WRX STi coverage and an RX-8. It wasn't based on the new style Legacy that Dan refers to. Anyone else recall?

The latest STi Legacy I know of is the S401 Legacy STi. I believe its the last sequential twin turbo model for Subaru.
Bao Ling, I would suggest you read the JDM models for Subaru and get a good feel what Subaru has besides the STI and the WRX. In Japan, the Legacy B4 outsells the WRX.

Car Info: 2004 Subaru STI/WRX Silver of course
I just read
I just read athe March edition of popular mechanics and they had a blurp saying that there is a rumor of a Legacy/STI line supposedly coming out article sadi it is supposed to have upwards of 350hp and twin turbo and of course awd now how accurate this article is who knows but if that the case there might be a lot of STIs for sale I also heard that by 2005 every Subaru model line will have a turbo version so it looks like that is true all they need to do is have a Legacy model that is turboed.....
I wouldn't be surprised if a Legacy STI comes out with the 394hp 3.0 liter twin-turbo flat six that they put in the Subaru B11S concept car (the fugly one). I think the new Legacy's weigh close to the WRX STI. WOW wouldn't that be sweet! Could be my next car...
