Laptop Selection

Any advice on which laptop to buy? The laptop will mainly be for my girlfriend, she needs it for her business school and it will be her grad present, but I intend to borrow it from time to time for tuning.

Dell laptops are pretty nice... I've always had good experiences with them, for home use and work.

I'd say go with a Toshiba or a Dell. Toshiba would be my first choice.

If you want a Dell, you can call this place, ComputerWorks, in Hawaii Kai, 396-8400. Sending you a PM...

Chris, you should qualify for the Government discount through Dell, ... so if you want a Dell, call them directly.
Dan got a hell of a deal, better than what they even list on the government site.

Dell makes an excellent cheap PC but their tech support seems to be based in India... Therefore if you ask them a question you better have a dictionary or theasaurus handy.

In my line of work were we really beat the crap out of laptops, eBus's and such, HP laptops have held their ground for a long time without breaking.

If your on a budget though stick with dell. The only other quality laptops cost too much more like HP or Sony.

Also do NOT get an AMD processor in a laptop.. I have had way WAY too many overheating problems with their old models and therefore i'm never touching a amd based laptop again.

I switched to a mac titanium powerbook. Thing is awesome and the battery lasts for about 4 hours w/the display on high. The G4 processor uses way less battery than the pentiums. The Macs are very easy to use and are also compatible w/most anything PC. PCs, however, can't run Mac files/programs.

Just my opinion.
