Hey guys! My keys are apparently mia and unfortunately that was the only key that starts my car. I do have a spare to unlock the car which is good but do you know if I can take the "chipless" key to Subaru and have them put one in? Or would you recommend me to purchase a new key with the chip? I know either way it will be $$$$$.

Im pretty sure youre going to need to buy a key with a chip in it for them to program. The chips are in the key already, the dealers dont have spare chips laying around haha

Maybe you could go on ebay and buy the right one and get it cut somewhere and programmed

They can program a chip using the vin. Youd need to bring proof of ownership of the car for this.

What im saying is that they dont have spare chips laying around. Your key either needs to have a chip in it already that isnt programmed or you would need to buy a key from them (which has a chip inside)..

Im pretty sure its a regular RFID chip so if you cna somehow get your hand on one they would be able to program that lol

 

you can purchase the chips locally. i know ace in kailua for one sells the replacement keys but you would have to see subaru to get it programmed. don't know if they will do it unless its an actual subaru key though. worth a shot.

 

Thanks guys! I'm going to give subaru a call tomorrow. I know it's going to empty the wallet a bit but need this to get done asap. Do you know if Servco gives any discounts to HI-Club members?
