ok, so I re-read that, you don't blame the utec, you blame yourself, ... That's why I asked what I did. curious as to who you asked to help tune
I don't see why it matters, but: I've put questions towards Phil @ TurboXS (nicest guy!), Pete @ TurboXS, Pace, Davidsh_m, the whole crew at WRXhackers, Larry (big brain on this guy!), suicidallabrat...
Mitch has hit it on the head. There's not enough time or road to get this thing done right. I have a business, a girlfriend, and some beer to take care of - yet I'm on the road every night banging away on the car. I don't enjoy it anymore. Things are fun until they become a CHORE - and then they're just work. I've taken something that used to bring me great joy (working on the Scoob, going to the track on the weekend and jawing with you guys and laughing it up) and turned it into a great big ball of disappiontments and frustration. That sucks.
I'm going to put some time into reducing the knock sensitivity in the UTEC (doesn't sound like the best idea - but hey, I'm at the end of my rope) and/or start looking at the motor to see if I have a root cause problem.

I think when time and money allows, I'm going to get Spec C gears installed in my car. Stronger and better ratios
Perhaps at the same time I'll also install a steel shift fork for the 3rd/4th gears. All this for under the price of a dog box set or the Gimme Gears set, INSTALLED!http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=332528
I asked who you've gotten help from, to see if it were someone on island. Not that the people you asked, or you, are incompetent, ... but having someone here, in your car with you, helping tune, is my opinion of good help. Without getting into exactly every thing I mean by that, I hope you get what I'm saying.
You mentioned looking into some other possibe cause in your problems, as in a different component on the car. I forget, what were your 1/4mi times before the turbo/etc upgraes? Say with an intake, exhaust, and boost controller?
Pat, the comment about "transient knock events which occur immediately AFTER shifting" is exactly what I was experiencing while driving your car in the gulch.
So it would be interesting to see if I still experienced that if you bumped up "the threshold count from 1 up to 2".

I'm really starting to believe that that's right, although because I'm still an EFNG (extremely fracking new guy) to tuning, it is really a big leap of faith to 'deafen' the UTEC's knock detection based on a belief.
It takes *****.

I threw the Stage 4 stuff (including the Unichip that Wes is running 12.8's on) and went 13.2 @ 99.6mph.
I threw the UTEC and the TMIC on and have gone 13.2 @ 101.55mph.
I've had to take a LOT of fuel out of my map to get even reasonable AFR's. It seems to me that the car is running really rich for some reason (the low mph I've always run could be symptomatic of this).
I'm starting look at hyperactive knock sensor, low squeeze on one of the cylinders, etc.

Taken from the Sonic Motorsports forum
$90 an hour
Gary is the tune-master......"flexible hours" too. lol.
BTW, for those who dont know already, Gary worked under AMG, Opel and Nismo for a number of years on the touring car circuit......he certainly was one of the best here even before he went overseas to race the circuits.

Hmmm.
I was hoping for someone with WRX and UTEC specific experience - but a big brain is a big brain, eh?

I agree WRX and UTEC experience is key... But at the same time isn't it really just fuel, spark, etc? I know it's not as cut and dry as I put it. But still basic tuning knowledge or advanced for that matter should get one pretty far dont you think?

If it were just air, fuel, and spark I'd have a better handle on it. In essence these are the components of combustion - but each car and EM has it's idiosyncracies and needs to be handled differently.
It's just with the WRX and it's active ignition, and OBD-II fuel trimming it's "fighting us". That's why the reflash looks like such a good solution.

OBD II = much suck
That's a big advantage of a complete standalone.
Good luck dude.
I'll be there with ya in a while.
Ordered my engine today and I'm shopping for the link.

Dom, any reason you're getting a Link and not something else??
Richard, we talked to the guy Sean, with Easy Street, again today, ... he said he would help you, or anyone. You just need to get a hold of him through Johnny I guess.
