I've had it.
That's it.
I'm done. Another disappointing night at the dragstrip and I know when to call it quits.
I'm not going to blame the hardware (WRX or the UTEC)- I'm going to blame the tuner (me). I have no heart for this anymore. I simply do not have the time to trial-and-error tune this thing. With no AWD dyno, no open stretches of road to tune, and a track that makes you wait in line for an hour to get a time run in on a Friday night test-n-tune I'm fighting a losing battle.
If you have time on your hands, a head on your shoulders, and access to the resources that this board (and others in the community) can offer - I think the UTEC is a great tool.
I just get frustrated when I really don't have the luxury of extra hours in the day to play and tweak.
This isn't a for sale forum, so I'm not going to post an "ad" here - but the following items will not be long in my ownership:
1. UTEC (~1.5 months old) - includes IBM Thinkpad tuning laptop
2. Techedge Pre-built OZ v1.5 WBO2 kit + 2 NTK UEGO Sensors

I think you need a link richard.
Instead of plowing through pages of datalogs you can see what's going on as you drive. Adjust right then and try again. All without turning off the car. You get immediate results. Seems like a more efficient time with tuning. Also, it seems Mitch has been having less problems since he got his O2 sensor hooked up better.

Dom, you have no idea...
Richard and I spent a few hours road tuning with both the wideband and my LINK 02 setup...
It's not easy to say the least. Boy would a 2WD conversion or an AWD dyno be really handy

Sean, you assume I didn't ask for help from people who "know how to tune"? You also assume that *I* don't know how to tune. WTF?

Sean I think that the main problem that Richard and I are having is not having enough road(or safe road for that matter) and enough time in a day to tune. Tuning from 12am till the wee hours has much suck.
Both our cars pull harder after a few hours under our belt and tuning away at the A/F(Thanks again BTW)
I no longer have some of my stumbling issues from 3-5kRPM and it pulls better. But there are so many intricacies with the LINK and short comings as well that I can't stand it anymore. The knock correction pisses me off the most on the LINK. I should just turn it off altogether and tune by ear... err, maybe not.
If we could just pool our money together to get a spare 5MT and a 2WD coupler of some type... Man o man would some of us have some fast cars.
But until then or an actual AWD dyno comes here, winging it will bring us no where near what the mainland folk have in terms of resources for tuning.

They didn't say they were quitting. They said that the UTEC and LINK are just not for them.
I guess unfortunately for Mitch, the LINK hasn't sold too well, but since the UTEC is a hot item right now, Richard should be able to get out from under it fairly easily.
As for me, I'm not to that point yet.
A guy named Pace has given Richard yet another bit of information that we might be able to try (ref. knock correction). It looks a bit dangerous, but maybe if a few of the 'expert' UTEC tuners on the boards endorse it and have used it w/o any negative side effects, I might give it a try, but essentially it means making the UTEC knock correction a little deafer.
Also check out argument #5 in this article by TurboMagazine.com:

You might also try bumping the threshold count from 1 up to 2, in an attempt to ignore any errant 'noise spikes' which might inadvertently cause the UTec to pull timing.
There seem to be quite a few people experiencing these transient knock events which occur immediately AFTER shifting. It's troubling. I've seen several explanations and none of them are wholly satisfactory.

Well guys,
I'm looking for an EJ20.
One of them has a tranny, rear end suspension and diff. I don't want the extra stuff. So if you guys wanna help out financially you can have the tranny and rear end.
