IRL wreck

Did anyone see the Kenny Brack wreck? He's terribly beat up but ok...broken back, legs, sternum...

I'm not saying it's the worst wreck I've ever seen, but let's just say the only thing left of his car was the passenger compartment.

That was a crash that bought memories of Greg Moore on October 31, 1999 and Alex Zanardi in September 15, 2001. Two sad days so bad I even remember the dates.

GREG MOORE

If you don't know about these incidents, Greg Moore was a 24 yr old Canadian driver for Players Forsythe. He was supposed to join Gil de Ferran at Malboro Team Penske the next season (he was replaced by Helio Castroneves). At the California Speedway, he came into a turn where a driver (Richie Hearn I think) lost it earlier that race. The rear end came out and he headed towards the infield. The car came in in reverse towards a retaining wall and the car tipped up slamming his head directly into the wall (from the top) at over 200 mph. I knew he was dead the moment I saw it happen. There's video of it floating around the web but it is something that is a bit depressing to watch.

Alex Zanardi was basically T-boned at 200+ mph by Alex Tagliani (who I believe replaced Greg Moore at Players Forsythe). The impact sheared off the entire front end of the Champ car including Zanardi's legs just below the knee. There also is video floating around the web of this. I remember seeing a closeup photo of the wreckage and you could see his head and no car just a foot or so in front of him. If it wasn't for the CART Simple Green Safety Team (amazing how that stuff sticks in your head; damn media), Alex Zanardi would not be here today. With the help of prosthetics, he later was able to finish the final 13 laps this year at the race in Germany. Zanardi raced in some german touring car race later on

Saw that too. 200+ head on into the wall, like his brakes completely gave out. Soon as he hit I knew he was gone.
