intake soaked...
with that heavy rain this morning...water got in my engine bay and soaked the filter. i removed the filter and sure enough i could see that water did get in to the intake. i tried to start the car but it just sputtered and died. anyone have thought or experience on how i could fix. ive been searching and found some posts mentioning the MAF sensor got ruined from the water, or could it be even worse than that. any suggestions would be appreciated

You may want to try out another MAF and see if it is just ruined. Hope it really isn't water locked.
That's a bit odd though. I've had my car(02 WRX) during the great deluge of 2006 and it had a full foam Perrin short ram. Drove it everyday in heavy rain and never had a problem. Water never really got into the filter at all. Were you running a CAI setup or something?

is your air filter still wet? i had that happen to a buddy's wrx. rain soaked his filter. when the engine is running, it'll suck up some mist and splash it on the maf. it'll either stall or run rough. try taking some maf cleaner spray and spray the maf and run the car w/o the wet filter. it should run good again. dry the filter first before putting it back on.
If you have a cone filter and want to avoid future issues w/ water, they're several sites that provide a water resistant screen cover for your filter. Keep in mind they are water resistant and not water proof, but they still do the job.

how did your filter get wet? that is strange on a short intake....you may want to fix the actual problem...or it will happen again.

thank you all again for your suggestions and input...
was affraid i was gonna need to shell out some bucks to get it fixed. as far as how it happened...i was looking underneath today and found some fasteners gone on the plastic of the fenderwell...might have gotten thrugh there. definitely gotta get some fasteners plus my resonator box is removed so its just 2 big holes on the engine wall. i might even consider the pre-filter too...thanks again all
