I want a GTO
I saw it yesterday at Cutter.
Me likey...
350HP
365lbft of torque
0-60 in 5.3sec
1/4mi in 13.8
6 speed Tremec
Limited Slip Dana Rear (independent I might add)
33,190 for the six speed
33,460 fo the auto.
The auto gets such bad gas mileage that it gets a gas guzzler tax, but the manual gets
29 MPG on the freeway
not with me driving!!

I drove the new GTO 6-speed. I was not impressed. It sounds good, but for the money I'd much rather have an Evo, STi, RX-8, 350Z, or used C5. Handling wasn't that impressive and it sits so low in the rear that the tires almost contact the fenders. It won't be easy to upgrade the wheels/tires without some body work. I think most of the GTOs will go to people who won't buy imports.

the going rate for 270+HP with a six speed seems to be $30K.
Besides, the LS1 is really a sweet freaking motor.
Of course, the handling isn't all there yet. But I'm sure with a few tweeks it'll corner really well.
Hell my car didn't corner for sh*t stock either.
Not many cars out there do.
That's why Eibach, KYB, Tein, Hotchkis and PST make all their damn money.
Of course, I haven't driven it yet so I couldn't tell you.
I'm in a toss up between the GTO and the STi.
I need to drive an STi that's past its break-in point to really make my decision.

no sh*t.

They are all smaller cars by a large margin. I'd hope they handled better.
EVO, STi, RX8 and 350Z are all considered sport compacts.
Buying something like a GTO isn't about the same thing as buying an STi or RX8. It's a different state of mind. That's why our car club is so much different than the mustang, or camaro clubs.
Big V8 cars are about presence. About straight line pin you to your seat accelleration. About the sound of 350cu in of power.
Not about 150 or less cu in. Or a big a$$ fin on the back of a car.
Right now, as it stands, I still have a desire for a big V8 six speed car over 300 HP.
I haven't driven the GTO yet and I may not like it. I think it is a little heavily priced. But right now, being an old Poncho man for many years (72 LeMansGT, '73 7.4L GrandAM, 73 Formula Firebird) the GTO has appeal to me.
Besides, that LS1 is a pretty sweet freaking engine.
