From what i read on forums, as long as you are idling for more than 20 seconds, it's worth it to shut off your car, and restart when light goes green.

Hey. he came out to a cruise, haven't seen him for years. He's married now, and said he's "Mr. Mom".
But yeah fellas, he has gotten like 450-500 miles to the tank.

While i love to drive hard in my wrx, since i've started hypermiling, i can't even imagine my wrx doing 350 miles to the tank. Well let me do a quick calculation: 25mpg x 15 gal. = 375. I guess this last tank i would have done it. But i do really miss driving my wrx when i'm hyper the yaris.

that's interesting....i've always heard it takes a lot to start them up rather than just idling. THANKS!

Because of EFI (electronic fuel injection) and better technology, I guess it takes less gas to start the engine. But is there a toll on starter/battery/etc?

He told me he's doing 'Home Security', and playing WoW.

I found the original thread, damn there were some screen names on there I had not seen in a while.

I would venture to guess yes, there is a toll on the starter and the battery over time, but then again, how often to you shut off your car anyway. I usually forget to do it, then i'm like, oh crap, i coulda shut it down at this 2 minute traffic light.
Those of you who live and drive on the flat plains could really get some good mileage, like Ewa, millilani, etc.
I'm doomed by the Koo'laus everyday, but, i do what i can.

Mythbusters tested this and it does work. i think he got like 10mpg more. they did it from like 5 car lengths 3 and then right on the *** of the car in front of you. even at the 5 it did show a small amount of improvement.
