How you can SUPPORT the building of a new Motorsport Center
Have you ever thought of seeing an IRL, D1, JGTC or Le Mans Series race right here in Hawaii? Have you ever visited race tracks like Laguna Seca or Indianapolis (Gran Turismo counts I guess) and wished that we had such a facility in Hawaii that we could play and learn at? Well, we've got a shot at one. Actually, it's right at our fingertips!
OK look people...we really need to GET OURSELVES out there to help HRP build a new WORLD-CLASS site in Kalaeloa!
For those of you who haven't read any of the other posts...this is the cliff's notes version of where we stand.
Basically, ALL of the groundwork, planning, investments etc. have already been planned and double-checked by many parties. What we have is a roughly $350+ million project that is for all intensive purposes ready to go! We've got a site (Kalaeloa Parcel 9), we've got an investment group and we've got the management all set. What we finally need...yes this is the final step...is to get a tax credit approved for this project in order to "loosen up the wallets" of the investors so that we can actually get the full funding necessary to make this place something special...not just a piece of land with a road and some bleachers!
In order to get the tax credit, we need to get a bill passed in the legislature and signed by the governor. This is an extremly hard process because of the broad range of committees and constituencies that are affected by such a project. The management team has worked really hard to get us to the point where we are on the doorstep to making this thing happen and all we have to do is RING THE DOORBELL!
For the last two years, we've had a bill going through the legislature on this very topic and it almost made it through.
Here it is: http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/sessio...B1619_HD2_.htm
What happened was that it got stuck in conference committee (when both the house and senate agree to it in their own forms and come to meet on it to take it to a final vote before the legislature...one of the final steps).
This year, it will be introduced again. Since much of the work has already been done on this bill...it will hopefully get through to conference committee again and on to becoming a law.
What we as enthusiasts and members of the community need to do to ensure that it makes it all the way through is to show our COMBINED SUPPORT for the bill by doing several things:
1. Show up to the President's Day Event at the Capitol see here http://www.forumshawaii.net/phpBB2/v...er=asc&start=0
2. Write or Visit your legislator...right now! Here's how to find yours http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/site1/...press2=vstreet
3. Submit ORAL Testimony when the bill comes before committee...here's the guide http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/site1/...o&press2=guide
This is the time for us to make it happen. Not next year or five years from now...we gotta get it done THIS YEAR or maybe never. This has to be a grassroots movement (meaning every person standing up for it) to show support for the bill and for the new motorsports complex.
I will be posting this on every car club/organization site I can find in HI if you see a forum that I haven't posted on please feel free to do it for me. Thanks and SUPPORT THIS MOVEMENT!
