Get rid of the MBC before you blow something up.

Well

I have to agree to some degree, in that I prefer electronic boost controllers. That said, it doesn't much matter if you have a WRX or STI, I wouldn't run more than 15-16 pounds of boost. Period. Most think running more boost will increase power. The simple truth is that running more boost than a turbo is comfortably capable of means you'll be blowing hot air and that means risking detonation. Suby motors don't take kindly to detonation. Resist the urge to turn up the boost until you have the mods to support it.

very open-ended question. If you have a stock Subaru, don't try to turn up the boost too much. Mods that are conducive to increasing the boost are endless. TBE, cat-back exhaust, exhaust manifold, catless uppipe, better intercooler, intake, ECU, injectors, and fuel pump come to mind. Mods without tuning mean nothing. If you're not monitoring your engine, you're inviting trouble. I ran equal-length headers, TBE, intake and FMIC on the stock WRX turbo. No ECU, injectors, or fuel pump. My car was quicker than highly modified WRXs and a few STIs. I ran about 15 pounds of boost. More boost wouldn't have made the car faster. I also used a wideband O2 gauge. Better safe than sorry. Increasing boost to the point where the turbo exceeds it's efficiency is pointless, even dangerous. Don't ask a stock turbo to meet demands it's not engineered to fulfill.
