hmm...first time at the tracks for me tonight...gotta admit i was kinda nervous...
...
it was fun...the suby dudes there were nice...thanks to the guy with the black STi for giving me launching advice...
...it got me a .77 reaction time...but i ran a 15.9 as my fastest time that night...first ever run i ran a 16.3 with a 1.3 reaction...then i ran the 15.9...then i ran a 16.0...arent WRX's suppose to be faster than that?...like low 15s high 14s?...
i've been launching ok i think......i keep the clutch at about where its about to grab.....rev it to about 5 1/2 grand.....then at the third yellow light i slip off the clutch then floor it.....am i right? or does anyone have better launching advice?
hmm...or it could be that i used tesoro gas...i used their 92 octane...should i use a different gas perhaps?...
the only mods i have is a 3" blitz nur spec cat back exhaust...thats pretty much it...
other than that the car is bone stock...
and i did have a whole bunch of heavy stuff in my car...my subwoofer...loads of text books...and big fat ol' me...
can anyone suggest anything i parts that can help improve my times? or preformance of my car?...i have an 04 WRX...
i'm guessing up-pipe/down-pipe would help...also intake...and no text books and subwoofer...maybe better quality gas?...better launches...would help...
theres always next week....

What was your 60'? That's THE KEY to getting these cars to perform. The WRX should be running BASEMENT 15's or penthouse 14's bone stock (15.0 @ 90.11mph was my best with a 2.0 60').
I threw on a turboback exhaust and went 14.6 @ 93.3mph with a 1.90 60'.
Uppipe + MBC @ 16psi = 13.78 @ 96.5mph with a 1.84 60'.
Stage 4 UTEC + TMIC = 12.7 @ 105.6mph with a 1.74 60'.
Good luck and DON'T drop the clutch!

Turbo-back exhaust only, my best time is 14.6 You're not really off too bad with the 15's. I think the best I ran completely stock was 15.3.
Get that 60' time down, & the rest just falls into place. Also, keep the car in 3rd as long as you can. Bouncing it off the rev-limiter right at the finish line in 3rd is when I got my best time. I think IS2Scooby has the same advice on that as well (he told me!

yeah it would help a little if you lighten the load, and don't worry like Is2scooby says the rex is a hard car to launch and just get to know your rex and you'll do just fine.
peace out

Sorry... Basement = low, penthouse = high. Not car terms, just colloquialisms.
Dumping the clutch = dropping the clutch = sidestepping the clutch = popping the clutch = BAD NEWS FOR TRANSMISSION. It gets you the best times in old school RWD cars with stout drivetrains and slicks - but our powertrain is a bit more delicate.
Slip the clutch on the launch and you'll get faster times and your transmission/driveshaft/u-joints/differential will love you for it.

P.S. Going from a 2.3 60' to a 2.0 60' will net you reductions in your 1/4 mile time of ~.5-.6 of a second or so (if you do the rest of the run right). That'll put you right where you're supposed to be.
