Help, What is this and do I need it?
So I broke this thing taking my stock inlet out of the car, it had two nipples on the bottom of it and there were two hoses connected to it (one to inlet one to intake manifold) I'm pretty sure that it is emission related so I figured it would work fine and the car would run fine without it. I was right, car runs, Idle is a little weird (could be all the stuff I just installed without a proper tune YET) I just need to know..
1: What is it.
2: Do I need it?
3: Would CEL P0457 EVAP Control System Leak Detected be related. (Fuel cap is tight, I just did a fuel pump, but the gasket is sitting proper and I can't smell any fuel) This code came on twice, only on long drives, 45 minutes or more, just cruising on the freeway. It came on uneventfully, wasn't driving hard or anything just popped on. Cleared it a few nights ago and haven't driven far enough for it to possibly turn on again.
Here are some pics so you know what I'm talking about. It's that piece that says "3821" on it. I have the two hoses that are supposed to go into it capped off with bolts.

it's not needed since I don't have it but it has to do with emissions. you'll get CEL if it's unplugged and if the hoses come off you may get a CEL. saw you upload this and figured a question was gonna happen
there's a blue check valve T that's supposed to be in between the hoses

Yes the CEL is related to the part you broke. Its a solenoid valve that lets the engine burn fuel vapors from the charcoal canister/gas tank.
Bolts don't seal very well because of the threads you may want to replace them with something not threaded.
Or you could replace the part - $$$ its expensive.

You can turn it off. It's pretty much useless unless you are a tree hugger.
Disable the trouble code with romraider and a tactrix.

Use the manifold port for boost gauge, fuel pressure regulator or some other device.
put a check valve on the fuel tank side so pressure can be released. (it is the small hose between the fuel feed and return lines on the driver side of the manifold)

There is a purge solenoid on the gas tank. 03+ has them. If I remember right our ej207s are plumber straight through. Obviously different engine but gotta research a bit.
