Help with a CEL for a GM car

How do you clear the CEL on a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am? I tried the old "disconnect the battery and pump the brakes trick" and it didn't work. Any other ideas? Otherwise I'll go into Napa on Monday and have them tell me what it is. Thanks. My sister's car threw a CEL and we don't know why. Freaking her out, but I'm so used to it in my car that it's nothing new for me. Just a pretty decoration on my dash.

on domestics, I believe that if your car is 1995 or newer, you can't clear the code by just disconnecting the battery. the only way is to reset the computer and thats done through the dealership or if you have the proper equipment...

ah the things i remember from working at sears

Which light is there? Many late model domestic OBDII cars have a "service ENGINE soon" light and a "service VEHICLE soon" light.

Either way - I don't think you can do the "terminal jump" to pull codes on any OBDII equipped car...
