headers on STI or Legacy
Does anyone with headers still use their underpanel? Anyone had trouble or problems of the plastic under body/shroud melting with the Gruppe V2 headers??
Just curious,..also are you running without it as Id figure things get a little dirty and lose the aerodynamic effect its meant to have if any,..

All I know is that I got better mid to top end range,...of course gains will be greater felt if not only do you have complimentary exhaust pieces like the up, down, catback. but also other mods you may have like fuel map or tune, turbo, etc.
In any case, it should help the midrange and top end torque and hp gains,..Lowers egts too,..

I am...
I'm running the GT Spec V2 header...I drove without the underpan for about an hour then decided to put it back on...
No problems really...slight initial melting near the header/up-pipe flange area where all the pipes collect into 1. Everything is fine now...
I would try and put the pan on for two reasons...
1. To allow the header to heat up properly and not cool off. Mine are not wrapped or coated but the vendor recommends that I do not for this particular header...it will void my warranty (over now). For headers to work properly, they need to heat up. My cousin just ordered a Gruppe-S V2 header for his STI from Myron...should be coming in early next week and we will be installing it next weekend...He got his coated...I would prefer mine to be coated to keep the header hot and the engine bay cooler...but I am following the vendor's recommendation...and it works fine...
2. To keep the water away from direct contact with the header/stressing the metal. I ran my header the day I installed it from Ewa to Kaneohe...of course, the windward side was raining...thought about what the water was doing to the pipes and as soon as my car dried...I installed the pan.
I highly recommend a header for our cars...I have nothing but good to say about mine...from low to high end it pulls hard...I've noticed no low end loss with my header...Gruppe-S headers are suppose to work great with no low end loss as well...As Abakja said above...hardware, and EM tuning plays a major role in how the header will interact with the rest of your components...research and choose your upgrades carefully...

I run an equal length header without the tray. Have done so for years. The header still looks new, except for the fact it's coated.

When I had the tray on, even with DEI wrap, I melted a spot on the tray. For the record, I don't recommend wrap. I smoked the DEI wrap on the stock turbo. Coat it and forget it.
