GM Syncromesh...on island?
Anyone know where? I'm getting tranny service (free from my commercial from Subaru) next week and was going to have them put this and top it off with regular Subaru fluid.
Any shops sell it?
Heh I mean I guess I could call GM Goodwrench if they have one of those shops in HI (wouldn't know as I don't take my car to factory service centers).

Keep in mind it's actually a Pennzoil product and can be found at parts stores under the Pennzoil name - Pennzoil Syncromesh.
A friend is planning a group buy on Redline products (by the case only) and said he is considering shipping to Hawaii. If anyone would be interested I will ask him to post in the HIIC forum. Anyone? I am going to NAPA auto parts today to see what they got. They always had the best selection in the Bay Area, and there's a nice one here in Hilo.

Well I'm still into trying this synchromesh stuff myself.
Since the service is free and all I figure it's all G.
Plus, I remember before I changed my tranny fluid I could actually get into 1st at like 10-15 MPH not have to come to a complete stop...I hate that!

Anyways,...GM Synchromesh is the same as Pennzoil, Quakerstate etc with the synchromesh, but is hard to find in stores,..You can get the GM Synchromesh at the Nimitz JN Chevrolet if they have it, but I found it at Wahiawa Chevrolet,...they only had a few left and was like $9/bottle,..Works well though when I used it in my Mitsu GSX,..Will try it again when its time for my LGT,...
You should never ever ever ever ever force your tranny into any gear, but you ABSOLUTELY shouldn't downshift into first without double-clutching. I have to do this occasionally, because there is a fairly steep hill in front of my house and people do not know how to operate the intersection at the top of it.
My pops was grilling me with shifting, clutch operation and etc when I learned to drive so it's natural for me. I have never HAD to use it except a few vehicles but lemme tell you it's come in really handy with my last few Subarus. I had a '73 Landcruiser that had a non synchro 1st and if you didn't double clutch that bad boy you would be making some nasty noises.
The easiest way to get into 1st from a stop is to just put it in 2nd THEN shift to 1st and you shouldn't have any issues. I can tell the previous owner of my RS liked to mash into 1st because 1st grinds occasionally when my g/f is driving and doesn't wait a sec before putting it in 1st when coming to a stop.
The thing is, if it's ever difficult to get your tranny in gear (like, it doesn't just go right into gear) then you are without a doubt doing damage to your synchros.

Why would you put synchromesh into a transmission designed to use gear oil? There are plenty of good synthetic gear oils that will work just fine in your transmission.

Synchromesh has been known to help with cold shifting and prevent any notchiness and munching/difficulty putting into gear,..So, if you prefer to use it and have the $$ to do it, I guess you can over the conventional cheaper stuff,..

Last I heard was that the gm trannys needed the synchromesh fluid due to the fact that the transmission uses these paper thin plastic waffers to help smooth out the shifts.
dumping this fluid in a gear oil only tranny is not recommended.
The viscosity is something like AT fluid.
I've mixed synchromesh and gear lube in my Starion's transmission works fine like that but then again I got 190k miles on it.
