Garage / Workshop space in Hawaii

So I wanted to open up this discussion because I've been on the lookout for some garage space for a while - I've always been a large scale project type of guy, but without a place for me to lay out my gear properly, I feel like I get a lot less done. ..

Does space like this exist in Hawaii at an affordable rate? Ideally the smallest would be something like a two car garage, but larger isnt bad either...

I've been considering renting a small warehouse / commercial divided space with some guys from work, but they don't share my work passion as much. But average rates were around 1k a month for a secured space which wouldn't be a great fit unless split with a few people.

(On the same note, I'm super grateful to those whove let me wrench using their garage space but I hate to burden like that as well)

Thoughts?

How about one of the self storage units? Not quite that big, but much cheaper. My buddies in college had a band and needed some place to practice that wouldn't bother the neighbors so the rented one and totally decked it out as a jam space. Secure, has power, no neighbors to irritate (unless someone is living in the next unit)....

there were a lot of people doing that in GA when I was stationed there. I've noticed that as long as you kept something on the ground for your fluids and didn't play load music or rev your engine they were cool. saw some mustang guys get booted from a unit that way.... while all the Honda guys laughed.

sadly, just a civilian, so I can't really park up there... it's too bad there isn't something like that for/run by civilians (but that was also an idea I was tossing around too on my own, just to help fund my wrenching habit too)

I really really wanted to do this, but I'm not sure I've found a storage unit place where I can drive my car into the storage unit itself (maybe ohana self store / kalihi area?) iirc most storage rental spaces say no to bringing a vehicle inside, but because my wrenching hours would be late in the eve, I'd probably not have any trouble...

find a house for rent with a nice garage, rent it, and then rent out the house to someone else who doesn't need to park in the garage. they pay the rent and you get a free garage with someone there to watch your stuff. winning

considered that - I might have to look more seriously at that option though; another reason I'm looking for a 'detached' space is I tend to wrench at all kinds of odd hours, if at 3am I can't sleep, I'll go take something apart or build something new.. hard to do without waking the neighbors sometimes lol

get a hobby for night time tinkering. even if nobody lives there the neighbors are probably not going to want to listen to wrenching at 3am.

exactly why I don't wrench at all, I don't want to be that guy lol

I might have something coming through the wire - if not that, then I need to find 4+ people that want to make a 'shop club' lol
