Also Subaru puts a special oil in the car that you should run for the first 3,000mi. Take the car into Subar the fire two or three times.

Yeah there is such a thing as break-in oil.
Just refer to your manual for the intervals.
However, you ARE getting to the point where you can actually drive fast which is fun.

read your owners manual and documentation that came with your car. do a search. also maybe you want to venture out of HIIC and look at the maintenance forum where these types of questions are asked ALL the time.
1. The block cracks.
2. Something else breaks.
3. You break open the engine to look around.
Best policy = stick to the owner's manual.

WTF are you talking bout guy? u wanna pay for his warranty if something goes wrong when he didn't change his oil for 7K miles????
In the owners manual it CLEARLY states first oil change at 3k miles. also if you go to the oil section it also CLEARLY states that if you do alot of stop and go driving(hawaii falls into this) or have severe weather changes to do oil changes more frequently then suggested in the back of the warranty booklet. If you don't believe me please own yourself and read your owners manual.

I wouldn't go more then 5k intervals after your first oil change. but with turbo cars i would be a little more touchy when it comes to oil changes and go every 3k miles.
and it's always better to change more then to change less.
so if you wanna change it now you should be fine. Plus your taking out all the oil and debris that happened while your car was being broken in. (this is me and what i would, not the opinion of anyone else)

me= turbo'd 2.5 n/a motor 75k miles of boost, oil change every 3k miles with 5w30 Mobil 1 full syn. GF4 rated. compression on my car is 160 on all 4 cylinders.
anyone who know about turbo'd sohc 2.5 subaru's knows my car should of bite the dust a while ago. so i'm happy and if it blows up tomorrow i can deal with it since it's been boosted past it's efficiency. all on the same type of oil. always changed at 3k miles.
Shagz, I think he meant not to switch to synthetic until 7k, keep conventional oil in your motor until you reach 7k. Personally I changed over to synthetic @ 3k with Mobil1. Car is now six years old @ 47k with no problems whatsoever (knocks on wood).
