Ext. wastegate release the exhaust gas to the atmosphere working pretty much like your blow off valve. (Car gurus correct me if I'm wrong) Unless you are running a GT35R or bigger, I don't think you need it at all.

To add to the post:

External waste gates will allow less backpressure. Backpressure strains the life of a turbo motor. Externally gated VF39's have posted low 12's in PR.

I think the innovative webpage might have a good write-up.

Nolimit and Teiva-boy have also suggested this over three years ago.

BTW, which Turbonetics wastegate do you have and what is the spring pressure and also, which turbo do you have?

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo6.htm

"The wastegate is a valve that allows the exhaust to bypass the turbine blades. The wastegate senses the boost pressure. If the pressure gets too high, it could be an indicator that the turbine is spinning too quickly, so the wastegate bypasses some of the exhaust around the turbine blades, allowing the blades to slow down. "

Cool website. Might be a repost.

why would you need it when you already have one...and its internal....use it if you gonna upgrade to massive large turbo.....but for now...the stock internal one is fine...and i dont think you can have 2 wastegates (correct me if i'm wrong)...
