Epoxy Flooring(garage concrete)

I figured since most people on here spend a lot of time in the garage like I do, that someone here would be able to tell me where to get a "good" garage floor epoxy covering.

I've been getting quotes from a lot of mainland places and shipping is not just a PITA but since the topcoat is usually a form of a solvent base, its restricted to ship out here.
I've also found some water based top coats, but the shipping in general is just crazy. 250+ usually. So... if someone has a recommendation of a "good" epoxy covering locally, I'm all ears.

I did find PPG finishes, which I'm looking into, guess they manufacture locally.

And I am looking at this from a DIY perspective. So just materials. Base/Flakes/Top coats.

thanks for your time, appreciate it.

for commercial/construction grade stuff, try bonded materials, white cap, AMS, and miyake concrete. sealmaster may also have something, but they mostly deal with asphalt products. these may have something that'll work for you, but it will cost a lot more than the home depot stuff (and will also probably be a lot better).

I agree at the end of the day though you do get what you pay for.... seal masters had a huge line up of stuff on tv.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I just got finished calling all of the places that WRXed listed. So far, White Cap is the only one that "might" have something, they are still checking. AMS/Miyaki(maui), sealmaster are no go's for that sort of thing.
I do have a bunch of quotes from big epoxy/industrial type company's, which.. I just might do it, I just was trying to save a little on the shipping. 250+ usually no matter what company I go with.

thanks again, appreciate it.

We use the Rustoleum on the floors at podium and we see 200+ people per day and it holds up fine!

I used the Rustoleum product on my garage floor and it holds up ok. I drag my floor jack on it and put my cars up on jack stands and it is fine. Just be careful rollong hard/very heavy objects over it. It may peel off.

My brother in-law has it on his garage floor and he regularly pulls in/out of it every day. The areas where the tires sit peeled away. I'm pretty sure he prepped the floor correctly because he is the 1st owner and coated it before parking cars on it.

My only issues I've had was where the concrete was cracking and moisture got under it and it peeled away. And there is another area where I charred it when I was welding over it. LOL. It doesn't hold up too well under extreme compression. When I jack up the car and the jack rolls a little, the epoxy lifts off the concrete a little.

If I were to do it again, I'd probably look into other products like you are. If you plan to store cars/bikes in there, it is totally fine.

I think there is another place in Halawa that sells concrete coatings. I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

BTW, instead of epoxy coating, I'm considering Race Deck for my garage.

I called around to see what a professional company would charge to redo my garage floor. I was quoted around $4500 by two companies to strip and epoxy coat a 400 sq foot garage. Yes you read that right, $4500
I wish someone would bring in U-Coat It and sell it locally. Let use know what you come up with, Ive been wanting to redo my garge flor but not to sure about the stuff at Home Depot.

HOLY @#$* Now that's just ridiculous.

Yea, i'll let you know, getting a few more quotes today, I've found that the U-Coat isn't as thick as they pretend to be. There are a few others around that are a lot thicker and better I believe. Same pricerange as well.

I think U-Coat was 2-3mils, others are saying 20+mils. That is thickness of the product, not shock/drop (hardness). It's a little bit of a give/take for most of these products.

A few that I've been contemplating if you want to research on your own:

Roll On Rock Kit - Garage Flooring Kits - Versatile Building Products ((25 to 30mils) <--NICE!!!

Garage Epoxy Flooring Kit| Epoxy Floors

Epoxy Flooring, Epoxy Floor Coating, Epoxy Floor Paint, Industrial and Commercial Applications from Muscle Gloss

Garage Floor Paint | Concrete Epoxy Floor Coatings | Commercial Grade Epoxy Coating

The first two I've listed are the ones I'm really leaning towards at the moment. Unless of course I can find something local that's comparable.
I'll be installing in 3 weeks from now so i'll take some pictures/videos after for anyone wanting to compare. If anyone wants to see it up close, come on over.

I did actually look at that, as it's really easy to just drop a new tile/pad down and move on. What kind of worried me is ie) dropping fluids on it, hot items etc, does it get underneath it? My first thought was, gawd, what if I leaked some tranny/diff fluid under it, guess i'd smell it and know... but still. haha

I'll ask around for the Halawa place. Thanks for the suggestion!

LOL @ the welding bit. Think I'll drop a peice of metal or something on the floor if I can't do it on the bench. I've charred the concrete at the current house quite a bit... Flame on!

I've heard some good things about Rustoleum and then... some bad things. Seems like a very good competitor to the big brands, probably could apply it 3 to 1 over the big brands.

As for what I'll be doing on it, definitely dragging jackstands and jack's around, I spend 50% of my time at home in the garage so, it gets abused quite a bit. Welding, painting, banging the hell out of something on the ground is a sure bet.

Sounds a little scary about the epoxy moving around a bit when you put a lot of pressure on it. Never really thought of that until you said it.

thanks!

I checked out the links to the first two you pointed out at was surprised that the prices are a little high. But, if you think about it. If you only want to do it once then I can see spending about $600.

But, what ever you choose let me know before you buy. I might actually go in with you and maybe save on shipping? Maybe even a group buy discount?

Update:
Went with this company, supposedly from ALOT of searching around, most commercial companies that I was talking to suggested/recommended them. I targeted companies that really abused their flooring on a daily basis, not just people traffic. I figured if they can't bust through it or rip it somehow, I'll never be able to.

We'll see how it looks in the end, possibly this weekend, or when I get back from vacation sometime in November. Video and Photos for sure.
