Musically speaking, you want to be able to hear the music as if the band was standing on your dash and playing.

With movies, I'd be a little more concerned about the rear fill than if I just liked to listen to music.
i agree- one piece of advice i have is to decide what are your long term goals for your audio. if you plan on going video as well, u wanna set it up for that.
being a musician i sometimes like my music dry and tight. so even though i have rear fills i tend to shut them off because sometimes i hear that the timing of the rear causes a phasing effect- could just be me going deaf and my ears suck(bangin on drums for too long)-

when it comes to my sound i love hearing everything slamming from the front- kind of like i'm at a concert- thats really just my personal preference.

check out my brothers website at sound domain- it might give you some ideas-
--> onehawaiian he is still fabricating kick panels and sub floor enclosures. theres still some stuff u might be able to use.

I already have video on my car... I just want to improve my setup...

I think I'll probably have the car for a while since I cannot afford anything right now.

I'd probably do the wiring...etc. myself since it won't be hard to follow a wire diagram or good directions.

I've never wired up a system like this but I should be pretty straight forward right?

what is that little box that is in this picture?

Jon
Just make sure you disconnect the (-) of the battery before you do any work/ installation...

Nice choice for the front speakers (Components)...
For the rear doors I would go with some Coaxials, since they are just there to fill in... my preferences..same as Gdogg...

that little box is a crossover. all component systems come with a crossover to cut down the bass levels so it sounds real purdy. i would say if you have the cash check out diamond audio. the hex s600s are supposed to be the shizzle!. if you want to save some $$$ the guys at installtech have the new blaupunkt component sets that sound pretty good and the price is excellent. plus the mounting depth is super low, so no spacer ring is required. well i hope that helps. the hardest part i think was finding a place to mount the crossover, not a lot of room in there. good luck and let me know if you need help. i'm a great supervisor.

you can get 4" MBQ reference level coaxials for the rear for rear fill...they're only like 60 bucks.

as for me, i like my diamond audio and JL setup.

I'm running 6.5" Nakamishi seperates in front and 4" in rear. They are all powered by 4-channel Concept Amp. Have one Alpine V12 2-channel powering my 1 JL 12 W3. My deck is an Alpine MP3/CD player.

One other

thing I'll mention. I had smaller Rockford amps and upgraded to larger ones (traded mine to an installer friend). Made a huge difference in the midrange clarity on the four-channel amp, and gave me a lot more oooomph (technical term) from the subs. I'm also running the Alumapro 5-farad cap. Don't waste your money on small caps. As far as the front stage vs. front with rear fill, I've listened to both extensively, and prefer rear fill in car audio. I never listen to surround at home with audio, only for movies/TV. But my home speakers are pointed at me, not at my shins, so I think that's why I prefer the rear fill. I also used to run the rears lower than the fronts, and find it preferable to run both at equal levels. If anyone wants to listen for themselves, feel free to call. 422-2595 (h), 448-1436 (w), 255-8591 (cell).
