Did I tell you about the dumbass...
...who left his toddler and infant in the back seat of his Toyota SUV at Tripler?
I pulled into the parking spot right next to the vehicle and heard voices but didn't see anyone. I got out of my car and looked into the black SUV right next to me. All of the windows were down about 4" and there were 2 children buckled in in the backseat.
I know that I would never do that, but wasn't immediately sure if it was necessarily illegal. It got to me enough, though, that I had to go inside and find someone who looked like they might know. He told me it was most certainly against the law and so he and I went to call the MPs.
I went outside and waited by my car for about 10 minutes, no MPs. Finally, the driver walked up. He was a civilian but I chewed his *** for about 10 minutes (still no MPs). He even stepped to me once...that might have generated itself into a big mistake for that guy. Of course I would've got into big trouble as well, glad he though twice.
I had to let him go, so I got his license and called the MPs and vented a bit that it took them too long (I know it wasn't the fault of the person on the phone, though). There isn't really a whole lot of 'law-breaking activity' on Tripler, though.
I told him, "You want someone to take your children from you, don't you?" I know you get busy and some folks think of the responsibility they have to their children as a hassle, but they deserve the extra care they need. Damn.

Holy crap... that is a prime example of terrible parenting. You did the right thing bro, and hopefully the info from his plates is good enough to raise some red flags with the local authorities... who knows how else this guy mistreats his children!

Thats outstanding that you actually took the time out of your own day to show more concern for that guys kids than he did. The annoying thing about no MP's is when they pull you over for a moving violation on any base around here, four more cars show up, but you have a real issue and it takes all day.

Same thing happened to me on Hickam. I pull up at the BX I park way out next to a van when I pull up I swear there were kids in there but couldn't really tell so when I get out I see a kid poke his head up. I go into the BX tell them, give them the plate number go about my shopping so about 20 min later I go out van is still there kid is still in there. I forgot to mention the windows were up all the way but it was around 0900 am. So I was pissed I go home call the SP's again assuming the people in the BX called. They say they'll send somebody up there so I hop in my car go back up there and waite until the Sp's show up I tell them I was the one who called they told me they had it under control I told them not really because by now this kid has been in this van for like 45 min they then advised me to go home. So as not to get more angery I left hopefully who ever left the kid in the car got some kind of punishment. People seem to amaze me more and more each day...

My mom's funny. She says that the only people she cares about (I think the list includes family, but who knows?) is babies and old men. She thinks people who commit crimes against babies and old men are the devil. Every one else can go to hell. She says that babies and old men can't defend themselves (I guess she must've been wronged by a lot of old women
)
I don't know if I feel the same way (but I will admit my list of people I care about isn't too large). When I see a parent going beyond what I think is appropriate in hitting their children or they neglect, I really have to restrain myself. I could very easily do something that isn't too 'honorable' against that parent if I'm not careful.
***FWIW, I'm not saying corporal punishment for children is wrong. Vigorous beating and neglect are wrong.

Thats great that once again the MPs failed to protect a child, but if a servicemember and their spouse yell at each other to loud a herd of MPs show up, the command gets involved everyone goes to counseling. But if a kid is neglected ahhh no big deal. Man screw the military and its lame attitude.
