Custom Exhaust Vs. Name Brand
Custom Exhaust Vs. Name Brand
Hey all,
I am deciding on whether to get a custom exhaust from rad motor sports 808 or get a name brand exhaust like borla or perrin. My friend got a custom exhaust from rad on his EVO and it sounds pretty good. It has the deep rumble im looking for. I am just not sure which is better..for now it would be the 3" catback..and im going to buy a Cobb downpipe..

That a tough question to answer. You're not going to know what the custom exhaust will sound like till everything is said and done, at which point, you're stuck either way. I believe TXS used magnaflow mufflers on their old catback systems, I remember those sounding pretty deep. All other things being equal between the two, Id get whatevers cheaper. You'll probably love the sound no matter what just because its your car... Its like smelling your own fart, could be horrible, but you wont mind cause its yours.
invidia dp is the way to go. as for exhaust... it really depends on what you want. lot of custom exhaust's i ever had on all my rides.. always droned. I do however like the sound of the invidia exhaust on your car..so.. i'd just go invida top to bottom
It's QQ thankyouverymuch

The name brand exhaust will probably hold its value and be easier to sell than a custom.
Unless the custom exhaust is extremely nice. But at that point, it would (should) cost more than the name brand.

Do you have a hatch or sedan? Kekoa has a custom exhaust that he just swapped out.
Also, keep in mind that Cobb dp is tapered at the flange. It's not that big of a deal but if you ever decide to try and make big power, it will be a restriction.

FYI, these mods will move you out of stock class for AutoX, which is okay since the 2 WRX drivers that will be in D Stock will probably be running R Comps. So welcome to STU!
Regarding exhaust, I would go with a name brand. They have all been pretty much tested and you can get sound clips on-line to hear the differences and read the pros and cons. They have been "designed" for their specific application and considering what's available out there, you have a lot to choose from. Not sure a custom exhaust would be better considering the $'s unless there is a specific reason you want a custom. Why reinvent the wheel for a simple exhaust system for an otherwise stock motor?
If you are adding the DP, you will want to go catted if you are concerned with your auto-x classing. Also, I would strongly suggest a good intake and a Cobb Access Port. You will be happy with the overall results, both power and sound!
Hope you are doing well and are getting ready for July!

it depends what you want to spend and what style you want, if you want loud deep rumble go with a n1 style muffler, if you want a more sporty quieter rumble go with a quad tip. If you can find it, i would recommend a Greddy Ti-C, i got mine a couple weeks ago for 800 but they are discontinued and are hard to find.. invidia n1 race catbacks will run you about 625 shipped from importimageracing.com, the street version with a resonator (what i recommend) is more close to 700 shipped to hawaii, if youre going for quad tip almost all of them are gonna run you over 1000 dollars. I know Rod at RMS pretty well and his exhaust guy Nate does really good work, they are the ones that made the catback im selling.. its starts with a full 3" flange and 3"in piping all the way, with a stainless steel resonator and apexi n1 muffler, so it basically is the same thing as a invidia n1 street, it was made for a hatch but can be brought to them to be fitted for a sedan, all they would need to do is change the piping after the axle.. only difference between sedan and hatch is the length of the bumper. off the top of my head they would charge around 200 to redo it. if interested pm me and i can give you a good price for the catback. (my wife wants it gone already lol)

And with the new up coming street classes, staying stock won't be a lost cause.
I have a sedan..I want a downpipe that will keep me smog legal eventually..I did not know about the Cobb downpipe being tapered I will pass on that..also the obvious sounds good but is it divorced? And if it I'd does that cause problems?

The only downpipe that will keep it legal for smog is stock. Otherwise, put whatever you want on it and swap the downpipe for smog later.

Smog is not an issue in Hawaii. As far as your DP goes, if you run the stock catted one with a catback, you can still stay in a stock class. If you get an aftermarket DP with no cats (most of them), it puts you out of stock class.
If that part doesn't matter, then you might as well get whatever you want and bolt it up. Catless DPs make a pretty noticable difference in power/sound.
