CF trunk help

Well my STI trunk tension rods(or whatever you call them) is way to strong for the CF trunk. I tried calling Subaru parts dept but they don't have a weaker tension rod, they suggested aftermarket. What do most people use and where you get them? I called the local aftermarket shops and no one carries the rods. tia

WRX tension rods are weaker and should work better. Have you tried using just 1 rod instead of 2? Just an idea.

run the wrx ones...or take off the tension rods.
but, if you take off the tension rods the trunk won't stay open...you'll have to use a stick or something to hold it open. i think the wrx tension rods are like $30 bucks.

Yup, tried that. The trunk doesn't go flying up, but the side with the rod doesn't close flush, about 1/2" gap, horrible.

I guess I can go the wrx wingless rod route, might still be to stiff and leave a gap. Oh well, guess I'll just take them both off till I can figure it out, heh.

I have both cf hood & trunk, but with the trunk, i faced that same problem too.. without the big sti wing it was tooo strong, but with it, it was still strong , but not as bad like a catapult.

I just kept the stock tension springs on, but when i do use my trunk, i just use the key..

I had it on for a little more than two years on.. no problems with it.

basically a gas filled shock that replaces the need for tension rods hood props... like the stuck on hatchbacks/suvs etc

any tension rods won't work with the cf, even if you get the regular wingless tension rods, it's still not going to work because in the end it will still have a slight gap. the best way to install a cf trunk is to remove both tension rods, then it will fit nicely it also matters what brand of trunk you have. VIS fits almost perfect for me

another sugestion is test it out, take one tension rod out and leave the other one in, maybe the distribution of power will be enough for your cf trunk to handle. never tried it before, but you can test that out

Unless you bought the trunk for looks, why bother with rods at all? Save some weight. I'd personally shell out the extra bucks for the Subaru aluminum trunk. Perfect fit and probably lighter than any "carbon" trunk, as most are fiberglass with carbon on top. Just my opinion, which is usually not popular anyway.

Thats what I ended up doing. Leaving one rod in, but the gap was to much so now I'm not using any. I rigged up a ghetto hook so that i can at least hook the trunk in the up position, instead of using my arm, lol.

I didn't know about the aluminum trunk. That would have been an option but the trunk I got is pretty light so to late to switch out now.
