VIS hoods and others like them that are mainly for show (with a thick layer of clear/UV protectant and fiberglass skeleton) rather than weight reduction can be a bit heavier than one that is carbon with an FRP skeleton. The C-ONE Motorsport hood on my own car that I imported from Japan doesn't have the deep gloss that my friend's VIS hood (or another friend's DG Motorsports hood) has, but mine is clearly much lighter. Both however are lighter than stock, but the aluminum hoods on your cars are already light so the diff may not be so great. For reference, the JDM carbon/FRP hood I'm using weighs 5.5kg (12lbs) vs 29lbs stock (on my car).

Most JDM carbon/FRP hoods we import are roughly around this same weight.

 

hrm, apparently Chargespeed only has hoods that will fit the Silvia front end. We have nothing else currently in stock, and we'd have to check to see what is available for that car from Japan. I can PM you what we find out.

 

Probably. Altho they do LOOK good, they use cheaper components and construction. VIS stuff is usually pretty nice, but I have seen some VIS hoods that weren't so hot. Of the carbon stuff available domestically, I'd vote for either DG Motorsports or Kaminari in terms of quality and fitment.

However, like I was saying earlier, these pieces are mainly for show rather than go. Japan carbon/FRP hoods use a tighter carbon weave (better structurally), a lighter and generally stronger FRP skeleton, and come sans all the layers of clearcoat most carbon hoods have for looks.

Of course, these hoods require more maintenance as they can yellow over time if you're not careful.
