Ceramic Coatings
Hey ya'll does anyone think that it'd be beneficial to ceramic coat their pistons? I know a lot of people do their headers and such but check this out...

I don't know about pistons... but I do heard about ceramic coating benefits for up-pipe, downpipe, header, and the exhaust side of the turbo. It helps retain the gas temperature and keep the engine cool. Header is risky because it is prone to get in touch with water. The coating might crack if it is on the outside only.

I'm sending my header off as soon as I get home ~wk or so.
I have no idea on earth, but if you were to coat your pistons, even if the coat was .001mm, don't you think that that would throw off how well they fit?

Do you really think that .001" would mess up your pistons? Supposedly, race teams have been using this stuff. Apparently, they're able to get it as thin as .002".

I really don't know, but I'd say that it's worth a good bit of investigation. I do know that the working parts of the engine operate within thousandths degree tolerances, and the piston:bore clearance is probably the most crucial.
Do you have any contact with a race team that does this? I'd be interested to know.

Try and email Dan Paramore. That guy will talk your ear off. His website is http://www.dprracing.com/
And as for coating the dome, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any EJ piston failures for anything but the ringlands (like my current problem.) I'm not saying that it's a bad idea, since my understanding of heat coating is dual purpose; to strengthen the coated area as well as to insulate (so that heat radiation won't occur as quickly beyond the treated area.)
Now that I'm opening my fat mouth, I'm gonna have to research as well. I sent away for Swaintech's video, so when I go home, I'll watch it.
Here's something appropriate although it discusses 2stroke pistons: Swain Tech
