A/C Expansion Valve

So i need to replace, condensor and dryer, evaporator, and the expansion valve. After doing research on NASIOC, I figured out that the evaporator is located underneath the passengers side dash, and collectively all i could put together is that the expansion valve seats right behind the evaporator. Could someone verify this for me please.

I'm in the same boat... where are you getting your things and how much? maybe we could order at the same time

iNfEk Jan 8, 2008 11:28 AM

I believe the expansion valve that you're talking about is behind the dash in the center where your radio is.

I'm going to see if I can upload it

Actually, I went to firestone to get a diagnostic cause i'm not an A/C guy and they told me the parts i needed, so i bought them from Subaru myself for a little over a thousand. Condenser and dryer is 400, expansion valve is like 90, and evaporator i believe was like 3 bills. But Subaru should give you an i-club discount. I just need to get this done b4 my son gets born. I'll take a picture of the parts today and i'll have them posted by tomorrow.

AngrySubyWagon Jan 8, 2008 11:43 AM

the actual prices are as follows:
Condenser and Dryer Assembly-403.86
Expansion Valve-118.36
Evaporator-396.74

According to Subaru 02-03 these parts tend to buckle under high humidity weather...so i bought them new.

did you get all o rings as well?

iNfEk Jan 8, 2008 11:49 AM

part numbers?

AngrySubyWagon Jan 8, 2008 11:55 AM

i didn't get the o-rings...do i need them absolutely bad?

I'll get the part numbers in 5. Gotta dig up the receipt.

iNfEk Jan 8, 2008 11:57 AM

you should since the o rings seal the system... being that our cars are years old you'll definitely want to make sure you have a proper seal. no sense in replacing major ac stuff if a little thing like a o ring stops you... just good idea to replace them

AngrySubyWagon Jan 8, 2008 12:02 PM

good point...are the o-rings a subaru part or is it something i can get at a local parts store...i'll pm you part numbers around lunch time. Can't get outta the office till then.

YUP... it's behind the firewall right where the AC line for the TMIC is. It doesn't have that many holes in them but yes that is it....

Here is the list that I plan on getting from subaruparts.com

I just need confirmation if these are what you got.

Green dot is there and ready to ship Yellow dot means have to get it from another warehouse... usually for them it takes 2 business days. I'll probably get the most expensive items first then ship in the additional. Online less shipping showing just over $700.

my computer at work wont let me see the pic, but when i get my receipt i'll check it on my blackberry and verify. Also if i get to the expansion valve, i should be able to see or have gotten to the condensor...correct?

actually... see the attached photo... this is where it's located in the car. If you want to get to it you'll be removing the entire dash and everything after that to remove the heater assembly in the center of the car.
