Hey fellas I'm looking into buying a built shortblock that will handle 450-550whp any suggestions?

You could have it done locally if you plan to run the lower end of your expectations on pump gas. I think even a factory new case and stock bores 4032 pistons is enough, and anyone should be able to put that together for you if you're nice enough.

If you plan to shoot for the higher end on pump gas, you're going to have to spend money on the head and move the curve to the right, and that's really what starts to add up. You're also going to want to sit down and plan out your RPM range and oiling system. I've driven some pretty fast cars and can tell you that not all were fun on the street, and in many cases I preferred the lower horsepower cars that produced the better curve.

I've also ridden in cars that felt really really fast because the curves were so crappy that the car had no power and then a ton of power in a short 1k powerband. The peak number and boost ramp make the car feel faster than it really is. I don't race, but I've witnessed a stock z06 walk a 550whp car (awd) because of gearing and area under curve. I also dive my friend's z06 often and can tell you that moving from a gt35 turbod car to the z06 makes the z06 feel slow since the vette has such a broad curve. But i can assure you that the broader curve is superior on the track and even on the street. So you may want to think less in terms of HP and more in terms of the powerband.

I wish I had a DBW. if I did, I would have a Cosworth Intake Manifold.

Yeah that's an excellent article and those tuners are legit.

Wish I had the money for a big upgrade.
