Super nice pics!

Quick question: are these raw, unretouched, color corrected, un-enhanced straight from the camera pics?

Shoot Raw, Adobe RGB color space, then converted to jpeg with sRGB color space for web viewing. All cataloged with LR2.0 and quick PP if needed, but no editing with photoshop cs...

I didn't look at the EXIF data but ****'s pictures look like a stock 28-135 IS with IS on while on top a tripod on a 30+ second exposure.

Either IS is on while on tripod or the lens has some focusing problems on long exposure.

That is a good point, didn't think you had an IS lens, might want to turn it off while on Tripod, and wonder if there is a Mode I or II as well.

Thanks

yes thats is what i have. and yes IS was on. can someone explain why IS would make the pics like that while on a tripod?

IS was meant for hand held shots. if you buy a lens with IS it comes with a manual that says turn it off when using a tripod since it will induce small amounts of vibration and cause camera shake or a blurry photo.

also, where were you focusing on? did you use the AF system or did you use MF?

The IS mechanism works by correcting camera shake. When there is no shake or very very very little shake, having the IS on will create shake and thus blur on your picture. Technically, when the IS is on and there is no shake, the electronics produce a feedback effect alike microphone feedback which in turn causes your blur.

Newer IS systems normally have tripod sensing which turns the IS off electronically to prevent this. However, the 28-135mm IS lens uses the older IS system.

Jon: I've been using the 5D2 for the past 3 weeks and so far I like it. The liveview focusing/zooming is amazing and itself is a time saver. Been trying 3200 ISO and is very usable in many circumstances.
