Anyone mod their 2009 Forester XT?

Yo, I know it's been a while since I've posted up, but I've been really itchin to mod my family's FXT....SO, is there anyone out there who has done any engine mods to the thing?

I gotta say it's painfully slow, and has quite a bit of body roll. pretty much unacceptable by my standards so please show me the light

I've read that 08 wrx/sti exhaust is the same? not really sold on the idea

any help or experience you have would be great!
Thanks!

-Mike

Do forget Chris and Sues! And Shaggy as well!

Damn, now that I think about it, there's quite a few modded 09 FXTs.

there's so much wrong with this that i don't know where to start. if you think that you're going to drive a stock xt like a wrx then yes you aren't going to like the way it handles. the xt also isn't as quick as a wrx but i'm fairly sure it was never marketed as a performance car. so if your standards are to high then you either should have bought an sti, or will need to do some serious modding before you will be happy with your xt. that said there are parts available to greatly improve the performance and handling of the 09xt, and yes the 08 wrx sedan exhaust will fit the 09 xt. the engine itself is nothing new to subarus and if you are ok with voiding your warranty there are a ton of mods out there. if you are going to make an informed decision then i would suggest you go to subaruforester.org and look around.

haha yea slight misunderstanding here - I wasn't too clear on what my standards were: I can't make the thing into a "race car" cuz it's not my daily driver. I was just looking for some mild modifications that others have done which have either improved the handling or responsiveness and power of the engine.

Namely I wanted to see if anyone has cobb tuning on their fxt, and also what kind of suspension they have. I mean c'mon the thing is basically an suv, I'm not trying to get it to handle like an sti.

Anyway, I'll go check out that forester website, thanks for the help

Now that the "go search u lazy bas-tad" is out of the bag, I will re-iterate what I originally asked: does anyone here on I-club, who lives in Hawaii, have personal experience on modding their own 2009 FXT? If you do, then please chime in

Anyone find that the cobb tuning doesn't feel that different? Not too many people messing with the '09's yet, especially since they are only automatic, not much fan-base you know? If people ask me why I am trying to mod an automatic forester family mobile, it's for the same reason why I have tuned my 335i -

Isn't it just more fun?!

Hey Mike. I can't really add too much, but I can say this. The Forester is what it is. Not much in the line performance, however with some work, you could make it pretty fun. It does of course have the space capacity to make it a pretty fun family mobile. Suspension options are somewhat limited, but some STi stuff can be used. Same goes for performance upgrades, limited, but out there.

As for me, our Forester is the family car that carries the family to and from. It's not that I don't want to mod it, but more so, trying to choose the mods wisely. What that translates to is: Whatever Leila let's me mod. So far we've installed all our old stereo stuff from the last car, Installed the OEM front lip, lowered it with Swift springs, and threw on some 19" Enkei Rpf-1's. We're getting the car tinted in the near future too, but that will probably be it for a while. Well, I'm actually planning on swapping out the Swifts with OEM STi springs shortly. We'll see how that closes up the wheel gap, just a little bit more. We'll see

Oh I've seen pictures, and I do agree they look sweet, but there really isn't any info on the experience they had installing the mods, or how the car feels with tuning. I'm already sold on the external cosmetic modifications, but I'm more interested in "performance" items. Shaggy's one is pretty nice (as all the cars he's owned), and I like the prodrives and stance on callmecrazy's fxt, but they don't really get down to talking about the sound, the fitment, stuff like that...anyway it's clear that I won't get much outta this thread so I'll just shut up :P

p.s. Yo Brandon, thanks for the info and advice, I don't think I've gotten a chance to see your Forester yet, but I bet it's pretty nuts, judging by your history hehe,
maybe I'll show up to auto x and get the inside scoops on the forester dl lol

i think the issue here is that you are asking the worng questions and not really thinking it through. there is only one person that i am aware of that has an AP for the 09 xt and it has yet to be installed in the car. there is also nobody on these boards (at least not that post or come to the meets) that has done anything to the engine of the 09 xt. that said logically with it being the same motor as the wrx, it should have comparable mods and perform similarly. if you want to talk about it then come out to a meet and i'd be happy to point out all the parts and give you an honest take on them, but again i have 0 powertrain performance mods. bottom line is that the xt is a subaru and you can do just about anything to it that you can do to a wrx or sti with about the same end result. you also have an automatic and short of upgrading the valvebody and torque converer, it's always gonna be a slushbox, thats y they have sport shift.
