i guess i should update this...
almost 100K miles...this is the original radiator cap on the stock radiator...
changed coolant every year... green coolant and distilled water only...

saturday...got hung up trying to split the block from the trans...WTF never ran into dowels that were so tight...normally a good shaking of the engine and its free....so ran down to the local hardware store to pick up this...

after some heating...this is the areas you want to heat up:

Wait a minute..... Dont mean to be picky especially in this super sweet thread but doesnt that pictured radiator cap go on the expansion tank and NOT the radiator?? Unless yall call it a radiator cap and I call it an expansion tank cap.

sorry bro, straight from the subaru bible...
Number 26 - "Radiator cap (engine coolant filler tank)"
Number 25 - "Engine coolant filler tank"
Its technically a reservoir aka tank but i dont know what an "expansion tank" is
for christ sake its just a cap

so hawaii nuts and bolts didnt quite have the length i needed to mount the engine on the stand...so i had to trim some of the ears of the brackets to accommodate... would really hate to support the engine by a few threads...
did a cylinder leakage test...

exhaust valves or seats arent holding ...
video
gonna be taking the heads to genuine auto in kailua for repairs...

hmm intersting, this is a stupid no brainer question, but did you messed with the orientation of the crank in an attempt to close the valves? my cylinders were caked with build up and even looked like one of the valves touched. i had good compression on a leak down tester tool like yours tho, tested while hot/ warm in car. i worked on legacy with 100k that needed a valve job and it also showed the same build up. the owner took the heads to Auto Machine Shop Kailua, HI - RK Industries with good price and turn around time. Apparently servco subaru also takes some of their valve jobs to them. ive taken my stuff to snydermachineworks in the past.

i did the same thing to test number 4 cylinder and it came out good....
did i do something wrong?
that is quite some buildup on the piston...suck in some ATF fluid and thatll clear it up ....though dont flood it to clog your cats...but a little at a time....with a nice smoke screen...
