advance my timing?
Well i posted a while back that i had problems with my idle and while i was working yesterday a mechanic from subaru came into Prototype (my workplace) and i told him about the problem and he told me that i might want to try and advance my timing... Well, i did this to my 01 sentra but im not sure how to do it to a wrx... Does anyone want to help me? Oh and i dont have a timing gun either...
Oh and when i advanced my timing on my sentra my friends told me that i would have to start putting 91 octane instead of 87... But when i advance my timing on my wrx, would that mean i would have to put a higher octane level than 91? cause i already put 91 and i dont want to have to start mixing in octane booster or something like that....

Oh and Dan i already tried reseting my ECU by taking off the negative on my battery... (several times)
Oh and Jon i only put 92 octane in my car... and its always 76.....

Just taking the negative off on the battery doesn't "reset" the ECU.
1) check all your lines, check all the grounds, replace all the filters and change the oil
2) put some really good gas in your car. A mix of 76 92 oct & 100 oct...... to make about 94oct I think it's a 4 to 1 mix.
3) take off both battery cables
4) Push the brake pedel a lot to get out all of the electricity out of the system
5) go play some video games
6) plug the battery cables back in
7) go flog the f_ck out of the car

Try the shiv technique, it makes the computer learn in 5 seconds instead of a day or more. I put toluene in my STi and it boosted to 16.8 psi like I have set it but no power. Reset your computer by pulling the ground, pump the brake to get all the juice out, put the ground back on and go to a long stretch without traffic. Make sure you don't go on boost before that or you have to reset the comp. again. put the car in 3rd and try and keep the RPM's at about 2,600 with 2-4 lbs of boost. You have to left foot brake to keep it from over reving and overboosting. Do this for approx 5 seconds and it should advance the timing and accelerate the learning of the ECU. Go to NASIOC and do a search for the shiv technique if you want more info. Good Luck!!
